SQL Server 2019 (Lower component count alternative to AppInsight)

I have created an alternative template to use in place of AppInsight for SQL. This can reduce your total component count and collect most of the same critical information. I did include 2 SQL Server User Experience Monitors in the template to grab active connections and any failed agent jobs in the last 24 hours. The remaining components are mostly Windows Performance Counters and a few process monitors. The component count on this template is just 60 compared to AppInsights' 100+ components. You can also further disable and reduce this number as you see fit.

Thank you so much for this. We ended up dropping AppInisights for SQL, and you solved my issue with a good alternative and most importantly, we cna disable any we don't want!!

Actually, to add to what I said earlier, I used the Component Monitor Wizard (SAM Settings > Component Monitor Wizard) to set up most, if not all of these component monitors. However, the SQL Server User Experience Monitor cannot be added via Component Monitor Wizard and must be added using the instructions in my previous reply. Hope all of this helps.

When you're on the Edit Template screen - just hit 'Add Component Monitors'. This will open an alphabetical list of components. The types used in this are listed in the "Component Type" column. The SQL query component is called "SQL Server User Experience Monitor" - I believe the query result must be single integeruser experience

this looks great thanks for sharing. Could I ask how you went about creating it? I've tried to create my own template but I cant seem to find options to add sql server components, thanks
