As more organizations transition to Google Workspace and cloud-native infrastructure, the ability to integrate WHD with Google’s Secure LDAP service is becoming increasingly important. While WHD integrates well with traditional LDAP directories (e.g., Microsoft AD, OpenLDAP), it does not currently support Google Secure LDAP due to fundamental differences in authentication mechanisms.
Current Limitation:
WHD supports LDAP authentication using Bind DN and password.
Google Secure LDAP uses mutual TLS (mTLS) for authentication via client certificates.
WHD does not support mTLS, making direct integration with Google Secure LDAP impossible at this time.
Request:
Add support in WHD for integration with Google Secure LDAP, specifically:
Allow WHD to authenticate using client certificates (mTLS).
Enable WHD to query and import user accounts from Google’s directory via Secure LDAP.
Maintain secure user authentication while complying with Google’s directory access protocols.
Use Case:
Organizations moving to Google Workspace need WHD to authenticate users or synchronize account data from Google Secure LDAP to maintain centralized help desk functionality.
Impact:
This feature will help WHD remain compatible with modern identity systems and cloud-first IT strategies, improving its relevance and usability for a growing segment of customers.
Thank you for considering this enhancement.
