BIOS TAG added to Assets Discovery Connections SCCM Attribute Mapping

Adding the BIOS TAG to the Assets Discovery Connections - SCCM - Attribute Mapping as an option to map the BIOS Tag to an attribute, either predefined or Custom Attribute, would be extremely beneficial for those that utilize this tag as part of the Asset Inventory and Asset Management for the organization, for organizations that utilize SCCM. The BIOS Tag (SMBiosAssetTag) already exists in the SCCM Database, but is unable to be mapped to an attribute as of WHD v12.8.1.

I find the sync from SCCM underwhelming because it can’t do what this feature request suggests which is sync on asset tag.

It should be able to sync on whatever key field I choose from SCCM to whatever key field I want to sync on in Web Help Desk assets - but instead it forces you to put the devices serial number into the “asset no” field of your asset records, because that’s all you can choose as a key field to sync on.

Since most organizations use asset tags in conjunction with serial numbers to keep track of assets, its short sited on the developers part to make the sync only able to sync with SCCM if you put the assets serial number into the “Asset No” field of your asset records (that’s not intuitive and it’s not good asset management).

There should be a LOT more flexibility in the design of the sync with SCCM. There’s also other feature requests in THWACK related to the SCCM sync that should be considered as well and it’s time this feature got some attention from the developers! @Avadhut.Deshpande

I ended up using the Database Connection to Sync the SCCM Database, in addition to the SCCM Connection, and through the SCCM Database Connection I was able to choose the Asset Tag field (after I figured out which Table it was in):

v_GS_SYSTEM_ENCLOSURE

Lists information about the system enclosure found on Configuration Manager clients, including chassis types, serial number, SMBIOS asset tag, and so on. The view can be joined with other views by using the ResourceID column. (Link to Source: Hardware inventory views - Configuration Manager | Microsoft Learn ) However, it would be nice if this were added as an attribute in the SCCM Connection so we don't have to create a separate Database connection just for this commonly used field.
