Please add a Dark Mode option for Service Desk please!
While I agree with this idea as it stands, I find it bizarre that it gets 65+ votes as compared to really strong usability suggestions about the UI and UX which get one or two. Suggestions which would have a real impact on the UX for agents, admins, requesters seem to get very little love on this forum and I worry that it will cause SW to misdirect resources at unimportant fluff rather than real product improvement.
Really? This is important how?
Even with my browser in dark mode, The SWSD list of tickets are bright white, and I have to wear shades.
Yes, I can make my own accessibility accommodations, but I would challenge those questioning the importance of this request to consider those of us who have eye injuries or light sensitivities and have to deal with headaches, nausea, and dizziness, but still love what we do in Tech and spend most of our day in this App managing queues, teams, and users while trying to perform our best without letting those issues impact our work. It's more prevalent than you think. Our company pays a considerable amount of money for these licenses, so to just dismiss this request as go get a browser plug in is disappointing. Our Security team restricts such browser plug ins, so that isn't even an option. Edge even warns "WARNING: EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES AHEAD! By enabling these features, you could lose browser data or compromise your security or privacy. Enabled features apply to all users of this browser. If you are an enterprise admin you should not be using these flags in production." I'm not saying it should be top priority over other feature requests, but I believe it deserves a place in the backlog.
This is fair and the last update we made on this feature was a year ago. Since then our UX team has been working on this in the background so we can get it implemented via the backlog. I will update the status to reflect the movement this feature has had over the last year. Thanks for your comment!
I suggest looking into the web extension Dark Reader. Works really well with making every site dark as well as SWSD. Also it has per-site settings. So you can turn off dark mode on 1 site vs not on all the others
I have been using a browser extension to make SolarWinds Service Desk switch to dark mode and it worked great for months, up until a few days ago. Now the text and tables in SolarWinds Service Desk text are barely readable and tables are barely visible now. Is there work being done on dark mode in the back end that could be affecting extensions to achieve the same?
Things that have Dark Mode as of June 2024 include:• The admin centers for Microsoft 365, Entra, and Intune.• Jamf Pro.• ServiceNow.• Microsoft 365 apps.• Windows, macOS, iOS.But not SWSD. The last status update was almost one year ago (27-Jun-2023), and it seems that this quality of life improvement that was a sufficient priority for Apple, Microsoft, Jamf, and ServiceNow to bring to production somehow doesn't warrant task prioritization with SolarWinds, and the feature request seems to have been punted indefinitely.
What is the obstacle that prevents this request from being implemented?
No obstacle. It is all about impact and priority. As we communicated on the last quarterly update, due to continuous popular demand, we recently resumed work on supporting dark mode and would like to try and deliver it before the end of the year.
