Update Ribbon for Admins

Any idea when or if we will ever be able to disable the yellow ribbon that pops up when an update comes out? Many of our higher ups are not fans of this and we don't always update the day of, and we seem it would be better off disabled. Anything in the future regarding this as an option? Anyone else find this as much as of an annoyance as we do?

I have to agree; this should be by choice, as most Admins will have already signed up for updates from the customer portal.

Perhaps view once and (x) to acknowledge so it does not appear again could be a compromise.

What is NOT happening consistently, is if you dismiss the message acknowledging that you are seeing it...it doesn't consistently stay suppressed.

That's what makes it truly annoying. In terms of those who are seeing the message, it's only been admins for our system...who see the message. Maybe consider creating a lesser account type and giving that to your higher ups instead? Then only truly the system admin for Web Help Desk is getting the notifications.

Somewhere along the line I'd hoped that instead of a "banner" reminding you to update, it would just show up under System>General kind of like the new "Migrate Your Data" module appears:

That's then the system admins visual that isn't quite so annoying as the banner...to update. Then my bigger vision? Just a button that says "Download Update" and another that says "Install Update" to update Web Help Desk - these are features modern systems have.

But alas...that's why SolarWinds is actively marketing within Web Help Desk itself, for us to all switch off to their web/cloud version. They clearly don't like us using the locally installed stuff anymore and it makes sense...because who wants to continue supporting a product that also has to run on weird OS' like Ubuntu, etc.. Narrow the scope and support it only on Windows SQL server (in my humble opinion) and make the product truly good. Not just semi terrible but kinda sometimes serviceable because developers have to know how to make it work under every OS and database structure known to man.

My advice is to limit admin level to the actual admin and 1 backup. Just because one is a AVP/VP doesn’t mean they need admin access. No admin, no notification.

Trouble is bigger systems use Linux because it requires so much less resources. PostgreSQL support should not be stopped either - considering in the "real" world it is used much more than MS-SQL, alot of customer cannot use Cloud solutions.

The message coming back over and over is a version issue. It's been fixed sense 12.8.6, I think.
