  • I think your in the Universal Device poller - thats not what you want. your going to want to run the "Syslog Viewer" appliation - normally found in Start -> All Programs -> Solarwinds Orion -> Syslog and SNMP Traps -> Syslog Viewer. . lets use one of my rules as an example. I want to get an email alert everytime someone…
  • I have to agree with Rcahill - thats more a cisco forums question than Orion. Once you get the correct syntax for what you want to do, Orion can automate that process for you. Good luck. Thanks rcahill - I am going to look at that document, and see if I can use it
  • no noticable speed increases with this version, at least for us.
  • did you ever get an answer on this? I have only one server to evaluate NPM and NCM, so I would very much like this to work.
  • still teaching myself v3, but I dont know how I would add the context based on what we already used for a config. Can I add that as one of the views we allow? <removed as un-necessary>
  • Im on board with this - we should have that option during installation - not have to "hack" the system after the fact.
  • Personally, I think it should be optional everywhere. I dont use the Watchlist functions yet, so I cant say how that portion works. For my environment, I would want to know if a switch was plugged into a "access port" instead of a "trunk port". However, I can see that this could be difficult to define. I would think that…
  • Took a look at your quick sql, and that looks like something I could use, however, I keep getting a 'Divide by Zero error encountered' in the report writer. probably something I am doing wrong. Thanks for the idea tho.
  • I am going to have to agree with Nux. This is something that NEEDS to be added to NCM - I have also seen a need to the exact thing extrands is asking for. Need a use-case? Ok - deploy a new Acronis or Dell CASE imaging system. or Infoblox - anything that could act as a DHCP server for any reason. I don't have thousands,…
  • If I remember correctly, this "scheduler" uses the Windows OS task scheduler. NOT the ideal way to do it, but I suppose it works. This was one of the biggest "gotachas" we found when we moved from <that other product>. In that product, we had an option to put a single server, or multple, into a maintenance window. The…
  • I am afraid so too - but I did open case # 693804 to see if the super smart guys at support (brownie points?) can help me figure this one out. worse case, it might be a big "if any match" rule.. .
  • where do we locate this GUID?
  • Unfortunatly, its not going to be that easy. You cannot create syslog alert from the Advanced alert editor. Solarwinds has not integrated them yet. You will need to launch the Syslog Viewer appliation, and do everything from there. Once you have the tool open, you should see all types of traffic flowing. click on the…
  • has there been any progress from solarwinds on this? I dont like having to "hack" the registery or anything like that to be able to support SSH to my devices.
  • I have been able to get a "gauge" on my node view, but I am curious how to convert this "negative" number to a positve one as shown in my previous post? Actually, figured out how to show the History - so now, I need to poll for a few hours to see some results.. Dont suppose there is a way to import the historical data from…

  • Thanks. The query helped.
  • there is another post somewhere that shows that Solarwind currently only knows about up/down states.. It doesnt know what "Err-disabled" is, so its not an option in the advanced alert manager. I think when they finally integrate Syslog/Traps into Orion, we will be able to do this - I know I am looking forward to that day.…
  • is there no process of users to do this? seems a waste of resources to have to open a ticket to get a MIB added to the system. I too have the Cisco controllers (both the 4402 and wisms) as well as a few other non-standard devices/mibs that I would like imported. Would be great if there was a FAQ on the matter.
  • Thanks, but I got a different error this time - "MACRO SQL ERROR - Invalid column name 'NodeID'" I started poking around the studio, and I think I have it figured out, for the most part.. Here is the queury I ran: ${SQL:select top 1 datediff(minute,e.eventtime,getdate()) from events e where e.networknode =…
  • possibly a feature comparison and/or review? There will obviously be some differences - I think Orion has a better reporting option.
  • can you elaborate on what chagnes you made to the Orion.CFG files? I would like to check this out.
  • Shouldnt the local ADMIN user account (not a user with admin rights) override this?
  • ok, cool. read the marketing stuff - where is a demo i can try out? Im sure my sales guy will call me in an hour or so after I click "register" on the site.
  • Do we have a procedure for 10.x and above? I am relocating our NMS, and starting with a fresh database - I would like to also export the 30+ maps we have created already.
  • no change to the Orion server during that period. Since this post, I did upgrade the NTA to version 3.8.0. I have another device I am removing some monitored interfaces on today - lets see how this works out. thanks.
  • I actually got a request today to have Orion display, if possible, WHO (what login) is currently using an RDP session. we have seen that sometimes, people may forget they have a RDP session up to a server (or 2 or 3) and when we need to start a session, there are none availble.
  • im jumping in late, and this may have been added (just started the eval of v9.1), but we also do not use telnet. SSH is the way!
  • I can also agree with this, but, on the other hand - Solarwinds does go alot farther than some of its competitors.. One of the main reasons we upgraded from our previous NMS (I wont mention names, but it started with a "W" and ended with a "hatsup"...) was because it offered more out of the box that I had. The previous…
  • What, if anything, has been done on this? I am now looking at a similar issue.
  • I have both NPM and SAM - and there is always confusion here on who monitors what. I basically told my crew this: NPM Monitors hardware - pings, snmp traffic, netflow. (INFRASTRUCTURE) SAM monitors Services, Applications and Disk Space - including CPU and Memory utilization. (SERVERS)
