Also note there is a difference between creating/managing VLANS in configuration mode and using VLAN database (stop doing this :-)).

The next version will (as I was told) will support SNMPv3.

Craig- The password generator is fantastic, the best one I've seen yet. It's great you guys built it and I use it regularly. I would love to see a free version (so I can use it @ home too!).
-
I run it on ESX too, with no problems.

You can change the bandwidth on the switchport. Be careful as changing the bandwidth statement can/will affect your routing. ACCESS41(config)#int fa0/48 ACCESS41(config-if)#bandwidth ? <1-10000000> Bandwidth in kilobits

I have not had a chance to update the webpage, but you should use Internet, Interfaces, System, and Chassis. **Webpage has now been updated.

Search is at the top right of the page. Tech support can help you create a new device template. You could post what your device is and maybe someone here has already created it.

Not available in v7, but it might be in v8.

Jon- This doesn't help you directly but, I'm monitoring around 400 devices and I have Orion on the same box and it's monitoring about 500 devices and 1200 elements and I have no loading problems. I do have SQL (2000) locally installed and the server has dual 3.4Ghz and 4GB RAM. My memory usage is right around 60%, but both…

Are you setting the source interface for syslog?
-
You can't. I've been waiting for this *feature* in NPM for a couple of years but it keeps falling off the list. Give them a call and tell them you would like it too!

The default transport is all protocols, so that is not needed. Also a username is not a requirement, but a good security measure. You have the commands right, the problem is somewhere else. Check the results tab and see where it is erroring at. What is the error when you try to telnet into the switch? BTW- You can do the…

There should be a results tab. If you have an error, you should see it there.

You need to upgrade to SQL.

SW agrees with the VPN tunnel, but there are a couple of major issues. If the tunnel goes down, it looks like the entire customer site is down. Security (can be mitigated, but at a cost). A think a better design is to have a remote poller. The poller can collect for that site and then send a roll-up back to our central…

skaczkowski- If I need to monitor a dozen servers behind the firewall it is! I would have to create a translation for each. That's too many holes in the firewall. jonchill- The big problem is we want to monitor customer sites. Your idea is great for regional sites, but we're trying to something SW isn't made to do (I…

Yes because there are two firewalls in between the two sites.

Make sure you downloaded the correct version. You want this one: www.solarwinds.net/.../engineer.aspx
-
We use Switch Port Mapper (part of the Engineers toolset). What you have to do is scan each switch and look for multiple MAC addresses on a single switchport.

I create custom jobs that run the commands I need. You could try show module show inventory show ip interface brief It won't be a pretty report, but you could take that info a make a report outside of Cirrus. There a hundreds of possible reports, but only so many can be created by Solarwinds, some of them we have to…

Chris- Please add me to the list and I can't wait to see it!

Cisco's website is quite good, but only for their traps of course.
-
Dan- If you add 'privilege level 15' under the vty lines, it will login to level 15.
-
Also check out FTP or SCP.
-
Jon- How about running a snippet on all Cisco Switches and saving the info via the results tab? Not the prettiest, but it should get you the info.
