I am running EE and monitoring 35 nodes and 684 interfaces. EE is running on a P4 1.7Ghz with 1gig ram. I'd say that I can see a bit of lag in the system with that amount of monitoring. I run the syslog server, Advanced CPU monitor and NPM. I'm not to sure if this software would benefit from a multi or hyper-threading cpu…

The only logging that solarwinds does is Syslog and SNMP trap logging. Both tools are very basic and don't offer any type of categorizing or sorting. There is a basic search feature for the syslog. If your good, you can use MS Access to open the database and run your own reports. Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations…

What sort of Subnet Mask are you using with that address? /24 or /16? Do you have more then one network adapter on the SolarWinds server? Sometime if you have more then one NIC on two seperate subnets, you will have to go under the prefs and select which address you want the TFTP server to use. Lockheed Martin Atlas V…

Try adding some additional SNMP community strings to your IP network brower. If you know there's an active IP on the network, but your not sure where it's at, use the switch port mapper to isolate the switch and port. Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

First off if you are still using PUBLIC and PRIVATE as your community strings, that is a NO NO! That is the first thing you should do if your running SNMP is change those. A hacker could copy your configs and or wreak havoc on your network that way. Make sure your not going through any ACL's or firewalls and getting…

CORRECTION!!!!!!!!!! You are going to enter the VLAN under the SNMP community string section.. HOST/IP: 192.168.1.1 Community String: Private@99 Sorry about the mixup Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

You have to type it in a particular syntax. "IP_ADD@VLAN#" Exap "192.168.1.1@99" You have to map on a per vlan basis for it to work. Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

What happens if you just set up the alarm to send you an email to your Outlook? Do you get it? If that works, there is no reason you shouldn't get the page. Is the computer part of your domain? If not you may need to install IIS and set up a SMTP relay pointer so your server knows where to send mail. Lockheed Martin Atlas…

I tried to find a way to do that but gave up after a while. Would be nice though Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

Are you using the default VLAN 1 or have you made your own vlan? If you don't specify a vlan on the switch port mapper, it will only query for ports belonging to VLAN 1. If you are using say VLAN 20 as your default for all ports then when you enter the community string put an "@20" on the end of it to query ports belonging…

Same problem here, reported to solarwinds tech support and no answers there either....Seems the only way to compact and repair is to kill the NPM application first. Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

The new version 7 has a SNMP trap receiver. It will except messages from any SNMP device, you just need to set each device to log to the IP address of your solarwinds server.... Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer

There are lots of creative things that you can do. As far as built in fuctionality, there isn't much for what your talking about. You can port your network performance monitor db over to SQL server and create some of your own custom reports. If you do this, when your SWnetperfmon.cfg Access DB gets to big, you can simply…

Are you monitoring the server interface? Or a switch interface to the server? You may not have have the right MIB/OID for that particular server. I usually try and monitor the switch port, that takes some load away from the servers having to process the SNMP requests. Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network…

Depending on the layout of your network, you could do an ARP lookup from one of your routers.. This will give you an IP address. With the IP address, you should be able to narrow down your search to a particular segment. From there you could run the SW switch port mapper on the switches within the IP segment to find the…

arisdh, I am runnig a P4 1.7Ghz with 1gig of memory. For the most part, the PC runs fine. On occasion, when accessing the Network Performance Monitor, I do experience some lag.. I am monitoring 35 nodes and 538 interfaces. If you are monitoring 200 "nodes" I can see where you system may have problems. Maybe you would be…

How many hosts are to be part of each network. You will need to perform VLSM variable length subnet masking. This will allow you to break up your 192.168.2.0 network address. If you do this, you will have to use a routing protocol other then RIP. If I understand you right, you have actually a total of 5 networks, 1 LAN per…

If you really want a untility capable of remote administration and user rights, you need to look at ORION. If only one user at a time is going to be administering, then you could use the toolsets EE and use some sort of Remote Desktop utility. I use Timbuktu but I have DSL for my home connection. If your using dial up and…

Try a free program for LINUX called EtherApe. It works pretty good and has a nice little GUI with it. It's easy to install Lockheed Martin Atlas V Launch Operations Network Engineer
