Add Task Automation Rules

Question

I've done some digging in the forum and I've seen a few folks prompting the ability to create/update/etc tasks via automation rules. This would be super nifty to be able to do, unless there is something I'm missing. Still new to the platform, so I wouldn't be surprised if I've skimmed over something.

I am not either, but it has been easier to figure out once I got one working. The only resources I've used is those two pages, looking through this forum, and a little bit of help from a developer on formatting in the beginning. Not much anywhere else. I've also been using XML and not JSON.

Here's some examples of ones I have set up. This one is inside of a ticket's process, which adds a comment to the ticket:

This one is also in the process, and creates another ticket when an offboarding ticket is put in. Blacked out part of the URL is the catalog item's ID number, which can be found in the URL of the item.

Also note that you can add .xml to the end of a submitted ticket's URL to see similar formatting to this. Feel free to send me a message if you run into issues after trying it out.

Aside from SW documentation, do you know of any good resources on making better sense of the API configurations?
