Email Reminder Triggered From Custom Date Field

We have a request type that has two custom date fields tied to it. Is there a way to send out an email via an action rule or other method based off of those fields?

For example, Field 1 = 12/1/2016 , Field 2 = 12/20/2016

I want a reminder email sent out on 11/29/2016 and another email reminder sent out on 12/18/2016. Essentially a reminder sent out 2 days prior to whatever custom date is filled into those two required fields.

Make sense?

Thanks lindsey but I don't need help creating the custom fields, I know how to do that. I need help setting up some type of action rule based off of Date custom fields.

So to be clear, we have a Submission Date custom field. The client puts the date in there that they need. I need to setup an action rule that sends an email out to a group of people 2 days prior to that Submission Date.

I don't believe you can. Rule Triggering only happens when

1. The Ticket is Updated by anyone

2. The Ticket is updated by a Tech

3. The Ticket is updated by the Client

I think you will need to make a feature request (which I would support) that would add an additional Rule Trigger based on a Date. Your request may be more complicated since you are asking to create a Ruler Trigger based on # of days BEFORE a Date Field.

What you can do is change the due date in the ticket and it will update on your IT calendar if you have linked it to outlook and set a reminder on it. If you need more information please let me know, I can tell you how its done. I do this frequently.
