Export Modern Dashboard groups (tabbed dashboards)

The ability to add tabs in dashboards was introduced in 2024.4 but you are no longer able to export the dashboards once the tabs are added. This fails with errors if you use SWQL Studio or the PowerShell method. 

I raised this on SWI Case # 01800472  and the response from the dev team was: "The feature is working by-design. The export currently exports a single dashboard, and not all dashboards within a tab group." 

The truth is, this means if you have a dashboard with 5 tabs on, you'll need to export all the individual dashboards that the tabs link to seperately, as well as import the 5 dashboards separately, and then build out the tabs again on the system you're working on. This is a time consuming process. 

Please help the end users by implementing a simple grouped dashboard export that takes all the dashboards in one go and enables you to import whilst keeping the tab structure.

Although duplication works, you won't be able to add the tabs back in. 

 

Hack and workaround: 

 

Export the JSON using SDK/PowerShell
Rename the file name as well as the unique_key value
Also clear out the groupID and give it something completely unique - in my test I set as "123". Then import the JSON.
Everything will continue to be set as is... tab order, and links

 

Just tested a clean run through with 9 tabbed dashboards, all dashboards imported and the tab structure has remained in place... no errors! Be interesting to see what happens after database maintenance though!

 

Duplicate doesn't work in the web console but if you rename everything before importing or export/rename and then import again following those steps it seems to work.
