I would really like to see some improvements to the Parts Module. It has been the same for as long as we have been using WHD which has been over 15 years. I have seen other suggestions about advanced search and reporting as that is really lacking but I think the whole Parts Module needs to be taken to the next level. A couple of these suggestions like the Search and the first couple below would be something that would be very helpful as soon as possible. The others are things that would be nice down the road but shouldn't hold up release of some of the easier items.
- Add Advanced Search for Parts and be able to see custom fields when viewing parts lists from the Tickets module.
- Ability to add a Bin Location to a part. For example if you have 500 different parts at a Location without a Bin Location it is hard to find it. So when you set a location to "Store Parts" it would be nice to be able to add a Bin Location as well for each Location that part is stored so you can say it is in Row4Bin5Sec3 and be able to find the part in that Bin. This would also need to be displayed with the current Location and Quantity field when a part is added to the Ticket so the Tech can see the location and know where to go grab the part.
- Add a Part Type to the details. For example be able to add that a Part is a Hard Drive or Cable from a drop down list the same as Manufacturer or Model is then it would be easy to search for all Hard Drives or cables.
- Be able to add a part to more than one Model at a time.
- When creating a new part or editing an existing part once you go into edit mode the Text Box for Description is very small and will not allow you to see the whole description. It should be larger in edit mode. It displays fine in view mode.
- Ability to transfer inventory from one location to another. We have our main parts site and then small sites out in some of our other buildings. When the remote sites get down in stock then we send out replacement parts from out main depot to replenish the remote site. Right now I have to add inventory to the remote site and do a negative on our main depot to keep numbers correct. It would be nice to be able to do that in one motion. Like a separate tab to transfer inventory where you select the part, source depot, destination depot and quantity and then it would just transfer the inventory values. Then you could track how often you are doing the transfer and know that maybe you need to increase remote quantity amounts.
- Tie into the Vendor database that is under Assets. Be able to track PO's and order information about the part. See order History for the part. Make the PO or Order up when ordered then when the parts arrive click "receive order" and it will add to Inventory. Parts are often ordered from different vendors so tracking history is useful.
- Add the ability to print and assign a Bar Code to the part.(Part number, description, etc) Be able to easily print a bar code tag right from the part page. Customizable label would be nice.
- Improve reporting. Have Inventory Count sheets, Reports on what parts are used and how often they are reordered, Report on what parts were used this month at each Client or Location. Things like that.
I would love to see the Parts module improved to be a full feature Inventory Control System.
