Stop setting Agents response time to agent instead of icmp

It would be great if default for agent monitoring was ICMP instead of Agent for response time. This is real annoying due to large amounts of false down devices we get when it responds normally via ping. All polling method should default to ICMP ping for response time with the option to choose something else.

Couldn't have said it better. The other way around works too, but only if your environment is perfect haha. In case of our's it's not perfect, and thus we have issues when using anything but ICMP for response time. I'm hoping this gains traction.

We aren't allowed to use ICMP to ping the agents since they (all 5000+ of them) are running in a DMZ. If what you're asking for was the default behavior then we'd potentially get 5000+ alerts after deployment. I would much rather have an option to bulk edit the agent based nodes and change status collection method.

The point was to basically set a default or put in a request asking for what the default should be. Currently they have assigned default to pull response time from the agent itself. But in networks like ours, this doesn't always work to our advantage. Things change more than 5 times a day and new systems sometimes block out incorrect packets. Giving us chunks of servers in agent going down when really they aren't. It just happened to be that for a period of time that information was being dropped by a hop meaning solarwinds was seeing it as down.

When all servers where switched to ICMP for response we never had a the issue again on our end. I wasn't suggesting to remove any features but rather enhance so at least we have a pop or something that tells us what the default is and would we like to continue giving us the option to go one way or another.
