Slow login issues since upgrade to WHD 12.8.

Hi,

A few weeks after we upgrades our WHD to 12.8, we are experiencing erratic and slow logins. The login problems exist for both local and LDAP(s) accounts. A restart of the WHD applicaiton or the server does not help. The server has enough memory and the application has enough free JVM memory.

Has anyone experienced similar problems, maybe with earlier versions?

After digging a bit further I found out that the public IP address of the LDAPS server that was the first one in the list had changed. This caused WHD to timeout before it could try all other servers in the list. That LDAP server has no public DNS record, so it was an entry in the hosts file of the server that runs WHD. I have yet to find out who thought it was a smart idea to configure it that way...

Are you running your LDAP to Servers over secure SSL connections?

Hi Phil,

Yes, we do. I set the logging to debug and went through the logs. I see ithat WHD tries to access each LDAP server in the configured order. There are a lot of there errors: WARN c.s.w.s.SymetricCryptoManager - Problem while decrypting string: {AES}[snip] with algorythm: AES
com.solarwinds.whd.symmetric.SymetricCryptoProviderIncorectInputException: Problem with decryption

In the log I see this error when I try to logon with a local user: 2024-01-02 13:41:09.279 [https-jsse-nio-443-exec-5] ERROR whd.helpdesk.com.macsdesign.whd.auth - Error while attempting to synchronize user principal <UserPrincipal loginId: XXX isAuthenticated: true password: non-null passwordHash: null> with WHD user Arjan Anthonisse [XXX]: javax.naming.CommunicationException: localhost:389 [Root exception is java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused (Connection refused)]

It tries to do an LDAP lookup, but that should not be necessary as the user is defined in the WHD Database.

The fact it is trying to sync via port 389 rather than secure 636 would imply you are not using SSL as per https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/whd/content/helpdeskaddcaembeddedjava.htm where the certificate from your LDAP server should be in Java Keystore.
