I'm not sure this is required for eveyone but we got it to work. Basically the users need the policy settings of "access this computer from the network". I was then able to move the non-admin users from the administrators group into the users group. The users group has that policy so it's now working and I don't need to…

had the chance to start again so I jumped straight into 8.0.2 and everything is peachy thus far

wow you guys are going nuts over this one.. my snmpd.conf file just had about 4 lines.... location owner community string snmpserver ... i deleted all the other stuff created in the setup script as Orion doesn't require them!! I will post a copy when I am at work tomorrow....... Q 4 u all....... have you stopped the built…

good post.. limited my MSDE SQL server to 512M and have seen no loss of performance... this should give m Windows VMWare server longer legs between reboots..... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

that being the case I think you should consider Orion on a SE SQL server.. this will prevent your issue... It sounds like the EE version is for smaller networks with a few devices and low usage if it is access based... Just my two pence worth... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
-
Sounds like you should be really using Orion SLX for the number of devices you are monitoring... However.. I have both Orion and EE8... not used the Monitoring tool in 8 but guess it is SQL based?? Before the automatic maintenance tools will work you must enable the SQL Server Agent else it will not kick off on its own....…

I use Notepage with Orion and it works a treat,.. what issues are you having? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

I have not tried v5.1 cos I have heard it is really buggy and has issues... however I have successfully implemented v5.09 with no problems or issues on both SUN Solaris 5.9 and HP-UX 11 boxes.... works a treat and gives disk, CPU and memory reporting perfectly... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
-
there are loads of posts on this... essentially you will need to install and configure net-snmp v5.09 on these devices and disable the sun snmp agent.... With the net-snmp agent installed you will then be able to monitor CPU, MEM, NIC and DISK... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

Net-snmp 5.09 works a treat and is free for both HP and SUN servers.. I use it to monitor CPU, Memory and disk plus NIC No problems thus far Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

that'll be the problem then... has 7.6 gone gold yet or is it still in beta?!?! I shall go to the foot of the stairs and miss my tea!!! Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

actually running 6.5 which has none of these issues.... this is something that Notes does to the snmp mibs on the W2K SP4 box..... not a leak.. anyone got more ideas ??????? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

the process is pretty easy... Old Server Use the web backup tool with the Orion folder to backup your website Use the database management tool to backup your SQL database Make sure you have any manual copies of inhouse modified files New Server Install App and new keys from Solarwind Setup database and system to default…

I am now using the 5.09 binary for Solaris on v9 of the OS.. have written a simple config manual and created the relevant files that are needed to make the whole thing work.. I get perfect reporting on NIC, drive space, CPU and memory...... v happy [:D] Works a treat even tho the binary is for Solaris v5.8 [;)] Martin J.…

I think I am the man who has said 'this works like a charm' and it does... As for installation.. I just download the premade 5.09 binary and have never yet had to bother with creating my own (why reinvent the wheel when someone has already done it)... I have had this working on Sun 2.8/9 boxes for the past 2 years.... also…
-
What version are you using??.... I can only get 5.0.9 to work with disk stuff.... the higher version 'crash' the agent when you try to poll this item... Where you able to monitor CPU, Mem, etc??... and if so then what does your config file look like?? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
-
You will need to use the 3rd party NET-SNMP agent... try v5.09 for size... should do the job for you.. http://www.net-snmp.org/ I use it on Solaris and it does CPU, Mem, Disk and network statistic perfectly... Happy hunting Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

I have just purchased 7.3 plus support.. how is 7.4 going?.. any bugs to mention or any extra features worth knowing about? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

how many devices are you running?.. I have 150 or so and have no issues... also what spec are you running the tools on??... I found that you need a good P4 2G+ with 1G of RAM to make things smooth and useable. Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
-
have you tried to redefine the resources within the management tools iteself... there is nothing required in the snmpd.conf file if you see CPU and mem then this is working ok... Open the Orion management tool, right click on the device and goto the resource tab.... you should now find disk listed in the available options…
-
I am a long sufferer of the Orion/net-snmp compatability problems..... I have tested all version and the only one that will work is 5.0.9 . don't even bother with the other versions... they all do someting different but the bottom line is that they are unstable and will keep crashing... for example 5.1.1 works great for…

Great piece of code... this also allows you to integrate WhatsUpGold into the Orion page..... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

No I am not... all my other devices appear in the list to assign the custom pollers too except the ones that display this problem when adding to the system manager tool... they are just not in the list of devices to add custom mibs to Any ideas?.. I am running the latest beta downloaded at the beginning of this week Martin…
-
this sounds a bit on the silly side to me.... when I add the snmp string to the Orion manager it finds all the details about the device with no problems at all.... it finds the location and owner etc so surely snmp is working and authenticated... it even sees the device as 1.3.6.1.4.1.3711.7.1 The issue only occurs when…

Glad I am not the only one..... this is one of the key companents and reasons I have been looking forward to v8... not good... Anyone got any ideas? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
-
.. I know about this bit... however it is not as cut and dry as it would seem.... When I add the particular device to the tool it state that it does not support the interfaces snmp mib... when I then go into the custom mib tool the device does not appear in the list.... other standard devices do.. Martin J. Hamilton...…
