  • You could use Crystaldecisions reports and extract the info directly from the SQL database. (I suppose you could also use MS Access). -=Cheers=- NG
  • Have a look at these posts explaining how to do this with the custom SQL query in Report Writer.
  • Go into the Orion Account Manager app and create a username: DirectLink with no password. Make sure this account has access to view everything in the Web Admin page. Now you can copy a URL for a node details page into your web browser and view details of just that node. However, this will not actually log you in, so you…
  • I think this is a great idea - no more waiting for license resets! However, this app requires DotNetFX 3.0 and sadly I am unable to install this on my server. Here is the error in the install.log generated after the failed install: Running checks for command 'NETFX30\Dotnetfx3.exe' <SNIP> Result of checks for command…
  • Have a look at this thread: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Base your uptime statistics on the loopback availability..... Unfortunately you will always have the backup links showing red in Orion, however using the Custom Property editor and the Node Grouping feature, you could reduce this to just one group showing up as…
  • Download and install the Polling Engine Load-balancer from the Orion Customer Login - unsupported Web page. This allows you to specify which polling engine you want to use & also allows you to remove old pollers. Note: the alerts will still be assigned to the old poller. Call Solarwinds support to find out how to migrate…
  • Just be aware you will need to get a new License Key generated for the new server before the 9.1 software is functional. If you are doing this after hours, you may have to wait until support can generate the new key. Alternately you can generate the key yourself at any time, if the 9.1 license shows as un-used in your…
  • I tried this a few years ago and was told by SW support that this was not possible with Report Writer, as it does not support nested queries. See this post - Instead, I use the outage duration report, which gives me the number of minutes any node was down in the past 7 days. Not quite the same as availability, but still…
  • Yes it's called alert suppression. If you do a search for this, you will find many posts on this subject. Here's one to get you started (make sure to check the last few posts in this thread). www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"]
  • Some of the features requested here are already part of Orion. Chances are they are not included in EE, in order to differentiate the products. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Here's another one for the DHCP Scope monitor tool. Some of our DHCP servers have over 200 scopes on them. This gets very tedious selecting each one individually. Rather than checking off 200 scopes, include a "select all" & "clear all" button. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Addendum: * IP Address Management tool - ability to stop the polling while adding/removing Networks to monitor I find the poller hangs the GUI while you are trying to manage the networks & settings. -=Cheers=- NG
  • I've actually added my own customized chartview buttons, so that I can view the past 90 days or 12 months without having to mess with the drop down boxes. I'm sure you can do the same for viewing the graphs with 5 minute intervals selected: Here's the custom resource I use on the Node details page to replace the Latency…
  • I agree, this should not have to be done every time there is an upgrade. You can manually update the schemas as per this knowledge base article: http://support.solarwinds.com/kbase/ProblemDetail.cfm?ID=424 Alternativley, I would like to see the update Report Schemas button stay on the Toolbar in CPE.
  • Unfortunately not. That is one feature lacking that a lot of users have asked for. Do a search in this forum for "custom mib" - exact phrase. Here are some results: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • I believe you are running into the ICMP packet size limitation on your end device: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp quote: Posted - 09/01/2005 : 15:06:09 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smaller (or the ability to vary the size/content of) ping packets in IP Management and…
  • See this post; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Create a custom webpage & then just setup Report Scheduler to e-mail it. You can e-mail any page (snapshot in time) with Report Scheduler. HTH -=Cheers=- NG
  • Larry, see this thread which was just recently posted here: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~
  • Our Unix admins shut down SNMP years ago. However that should not stop you from polling the stats you want. Just request an admin account to be created on all the servers and use that to poll the server using Orion Server and Application Monitor (formerly APM) scripts.
  • quote:We are are gathering customer input on what kind of features they would like to see and how the two products should be integrated. Please post your comments here Have a link on the Node Details page in Orion that displays the last downloaded config of the device you are viewing. If the device is down, you can still…
  • Our GRE over IPSEC tunnel interfaces are displayed with the following ICON: ...\Inetpub\SolarWinds\NetPerfMon\images\Interfaces\131.gif It seems strange that yours would not display correctly. I'm not sure how you can correct this though. -=Cheers=- NG
  • XP is a desktop OS, Orion is a SERVER application. Check the server requirements in the Orion documentation. Also you should have IIS installed before installing Orion. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~
  • You can do this by doing some work in Custom Property Editor first. Add a custom property - CPU Report Now add a description like 'CPU' to all nodes you want to report on. Now create a report based(filtered) on this new property. This is the important part - Do NOT select NodeName or ID ias a report field. Just select the…
  • Do not open the new map from the Big Buttons in the middle of the page. Instead go to the menu bar at the top of the page and select: File> new map or hit ctrl+n All the large buttons seem to crash the Orion programs when I try opening something with them - Report Writer, Map Maker, Alerts, etc. -=Cheers=- NG

  • You might be able to do this with MS Enterprise SQL manager. I have not had much experience with NPM or managing the DB. There are also other posts in this forum on managing the NPM DB. -=Cheers=- NG
  • You can edit the DB directly using the Orion database manager app. Have a look at these posts: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp As per the last post, you most shutdown the Orion service while doing the update & then restart it when done. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Could you not use the Network Discovery tool to add all your devices? It's documented in the admin guide; www.solarwinds.net/.../Network_Discovery.htm -=Cheers=- NG
  • I have found the source of the discards by using the Toolset MIB browser and polling the following MIB for this interface (note this is a 32 bit counter, while the interface utilization statistics are being polled using 64 bit counters): RFC1213-MIB:ifOutDiscards OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.19 Access: Read-Only Type: Counter32…
  • Great info here - I just happened to run into this shortcut on my Orion server today and was not aware of what it was for. I have some Cisco ASR 9000s with 8Gb of memory, but Orion only report 2Gb and is showing 99% utilization. I ran the poller checker, but sadly there are no other memory pollers that work for these…
