Alert when connectivity to Alert Integration Instance is down

We have integrated our SolarWinds platform with multiple ServiceNow instances (DEV/PREPROD & PROD). During testing sometimes when changes are made to the DEV/PREPROD instances for some testing etc, we lose the connectivity and would like to monitor and alert when the connectivity to the ServiceNow instance is down. Any ideas please?

You could monitor the website status. We have WPM & Pingdom and monitor the website using both of those solutions.

Can we create a dashboard to show what is the status of these service now integration instances and alert if status is down we can get an alert via email?

Just from my own experience, yes, there are a few ways you can create a dashboard to show the status.

The most basic would be to add a custom query widget to an existing dashboard with the following SWQL:

SELECT Name,
CASE
WHEN Status = 0 THEN 'DOWN'
WHEN Status = 1 THEN 'UP'
ELSE 'unknown'
END AS Status
FROM Orion.ESI.IncidentService

Or if you want to monitor Operational State, such as when the system restricts ticket creation due to creating too many at once:

SELECT Name,
CASE
WHEN OperationalState = 0 THEN 'Disabled'
WHEN OperationalState = 1 THEN 'Restricted'
WHEN OperationalState = 2 THEN 'Enabled'
WHEN OperationalState = 3 THEN 'Restricted by System'
ELSE 'unknown'
END AS OperationalState
FROM Orion.ESI.IncidentService

Or both!

As for the alerting piece, you can have it alert on ServiceNow Instance and set the trigger condition to monitor Status or Operational State.

For my own alert, I have it alerting when the Operational state is anything besides Enabled, but you can have it set to only alert when Status is DOWN or Operational State goes Restricted by System, depending on your preference.
