Wireless Heat-map Issue in Network Atlas

Hello -

The networking team put in new Wireless LAN Controllers over the weekend and completely forgot that we have wireless heat maps in Orion. Are there any instructions on how to update this or do we need to generate all new maps? I am getting the error "Wireless Heat Map poller is not enabled" but if I go to Manage Pollers > Wireless Controller I see it there. I am slowly getting up to speed on the networking side of Orion but am really rusty. Thanks -Dave

I deleted the old APs off the heatmap and put them back, let it sit overnight and things are working now.

Presumably you are talking about heat maps in Network Atlas as I'm pretty sure Orion Maps can't do this (along with a lot of other things) yet. But I can't help with the error other than to suggest disabling it and re-enabling. If that doesn't work, disable then restart your Orion services and then re-enable.

That said, it is key you understand that a heat map is not a "live" map, and instead it is a one and done.

So you add the nodes to your map, etc and then generate the heat map. That's it, you are done. You could half the APs powered down but the map will not change unless you go back and re-generate it. Not ideal at all.

Secondly, these heat maps are a 'best guess' scenario and I would not rely on them in any way for troubleshooting or otherwise.

Yes I am talking about heat maps in Network Atlas. I will disable and re-enable the services and see if it kicks things back off.

So I went in and removed the two WLC from Wireless heat maps and put them back and nothing has changed. If I go to the map and try to regenerate them I get two errors -

1. Wireless Controller or Access Point used on the map isn't monitored by Orion anymore

2. Wireless Heat Map Poller is not enabled.

If I go and check the pollers the Wireless Heat Map poller is enabled. I can add one of the new WLC in Assign Wireless Heat Map to Nodes but the other WLC says it is not a match.

I did some updates and remapped the APs. I am going to let it sit over night and see if things generate correctly. I am down to the error 'Failed to poll access points/reference points'
