Hello THWACK Folks -
Not sure if this is an issue others are having or not, but thought I'd reach out and see as I feel like I've hit the end of my rope... I've (along with the continued help / expertise of SolarWinds Support) have been banging our heads against the wall for quite some time trying to understand this issue and so far unable to resolve.
I'm seeing this error logged within the SolarWinds Event Log and the Windows Event Log every time the Trap Service (SolarWinds Log Manager for Orion Trap Service) starts up:
TrapService : Could not open MIBs.cfg.\nPlease, download MIB Database and install the MIBs.msi file to correct this problem
I've tirelessly tried all recommended steps with no success and still seeing the error logged. Below is a bit of information about my personal lab environment seeing the problem and some of the steps we've taken up to this point.
Server Info / Notes:
- Windows Server 2016 (has latest patches)
- Windows Defender AV
- Orion v2020.2.6 HF2 - modules NPM, NCM, SAM, NTA, IPAM, SCM, Patch Manager
- All installs being run with local administrator account
- DEP only enabled for essential Windows services (per recommendations)
- UAC Disabled (per recommendations)
Steps taken thus far:
- Add Exclusions for both the MIBs.msi install and MIBs.cfg
- Disable Anti-Virus completely
- Numerous Server reboots
- Ran Configuration Manager
- Ran Orion Permissions Checker
- Update of Orion MIBs (via MSI AND ZIP manually)
Additional Notes about the issue itself
- Error logged consistently on startup of all Orion Services (subsequent restarts of the Trap Service alone do not see this issue)
- Error does not cause issues that I'm aware of?...
- MIBs browser within the Web UI works
- MIBs browser within the UnDP Win32 App (when RDP'd into the server) works
- Trap reception and alerting via Log Analyzer continue to work
Thanks so much for any possible insight, recommendations or help.
Hopefully someone out there has encountered a similarly persistent issue with the MIBs errors I'm seeing and could provide some insight... cheers!
