We have Software titles, versions etc being populated from the SWSD desktop based agent
Is there a way I can convert Software to be a Configuration Item in the CMDB?
@lujoki my plan is exactly what you are thinking. I want to bundle all software versions into a single parent CI which you can then see all the versions under it. I plan on doing this work in the Software area first before moving them all to the CMDB.
Would you be open to have a call about this as I work on the design and requirements?
Do I need to rephase the question?
Software titles collected from the desktop agent and now live within the Assets area, how can these be converted to be Configuration Items within the CMDB?
Hi @lujoki,
Currently the only way to make them a CI is to manually create the CI with the information. We are working on adding all assets (Computers, Other Assets, Mobile Devices, Software, Contract, etc) to the CI data model so you can easily attach them to other CIs and build out your CMDB. This work is ongoing with Network Devices being the first to move over.
Are you thinking in terms of WHD? https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/whd/content/helpdeskexportingassets.htmOr in terms of exporting from asset inventory in SolarWinds Orion itself? Have you thought about running an asset report CSV and using that to populate fields?
Thanks @joeybrown
The way I see it working due to the many different software versions you could have a parent 'Software' CI and links all versions within it.
E.g Microsoft Edge (Parent CI) links to all versions. e.g 95.0.1020.40
Not sure you'd want a CI per version, you'd end up with thousands of unnecessary CIs
More then happy to @joeybrown
Hi @joeybrown - wondering if there had been any movement on this development? Thanks in advanced.
