Warranty Tracking based on Custom Properties

Hello all!

So to keep this brief I am looking for a few ideas on ways I can implement our warranty for servers using Solarwinds and also make a nice little Widget to go alongside it. Unfortunately for me the SAM warranty information polls warranty expiration based on Dell, HP, IBM, etc databases - those databases do not apply for any of the servers we have as they are all managed through a third party.

My goal is to get a similar model for my organization using Custom properties. Since date is a custom property I have gone with:

Warranty_Start_Date & Warranty_End_Date

I will have to go through each node and assign these dates but at least I would have the information.

Once all that information is in there I want to create a widget that does pretty much exactly what the standard warranty one in SAM does and lets me know 60/30/10/expired days out from the date using my custom properties to tell the difference.

Does anyone have experience setting up these types of widgets using custom dates? Any problems using this technique? Best thoughts for utilizing this?

Created a query for a widget to get you started:
