HP MSM765 not detected as WLAN Controller.....?

We have implemented at a customers place a nice WLAN with an HP Procurve MSM765 module as a WLAN controller for about 50 APs.

Due to other problems we install a Demo of Orion and the customer is really impressed (and we will renew the netqwork backbone...).

One bad thing remains: Orion is detecting the MSM as a device (with both virtual interfaces) but not as an WLAN Controller.

Is there anything to do about that?

Sorry, unfortunantly not, I will have to log that as an enhancement request. Unlike the typical thick or autonomous AP's that typically use the 802.11 MIB, each vendor typically has their own unique MIB for controllers, so we cannot get them all in one fair swoop like the older thick AP's. We support Cisco and Aruba today and are gauging priority level for adding others based on community input.

Any updates on adding HP MSM's? We've deployed NPM at an all HP shop, and we have many sites with many dozens of APs controlled by WSM's and MSM's.

the HP Procurve 410 is listed and NPM 10.1.2 happens to support it, so it's really worth double checking whether or not 10.1.2 works against the MSM765 (also listed in the doc).

What version of NPM have you deployed? Are you experiencing the same issue as reported at the beginning of this thread? (detected as a simple device).

I created some device pollers for the MSM750 (not sure if they'll work on other MSM series controllers). I got the MIBs from a Colubris document; they should still work with the HP models.

We are on NPM 10.1.2 SP1. Yes, detecting as simple device. The thin clients do not show up on the wireless page.

This is really "unfortunate", as we were told that the HP MIB (mentioned below) would take care of this, and it does not (or we are not using it correctly). It was a major selling point of the product. Is there a way we can devlelop this ourselves? I really need to get management and alerting on these access points - it's a major piece of a warehouse production system.

we are working on support of MSM 760/765 devices for NPM. Our DEV needs to figure out what's the OID of Rogue AP detection.

Could someone that has 760/765 and Rogue APs send me SNMP walk please?

I too am fighting this battle. I sent a walk in months ago and was told it was going to be looked into...but I just upgrated to NPM 10.3.1 and still nothing in my wireless tab . Does anyone have an update on when this might be added?

OK, so I just installed NPM 10.4 and I still got nothing...my MSM760 is still not coming up in the wireless tab. ANy thoughts? Am I missing something? Its currently polling using SNMPv3 read.

Have you tried to run list resources on that node? You need to enable wireless poller there to start gathering wireless specific data.

Yes I did…and it seems to show it as a wireless controller on the list resources page…but I don’t see anything to enable a wireless poller there? The only options I see are poll for Vmware and Poll for UCS.

I’ve also tried removing it completely, waiting about an hour, then reading it as a new node, but no change.

Ok I can see the device was properly recognized by NPM and Wireless Controller poller is enabled (checked) but the polling is not working for some reason because no data are displayd within the Wireless Summary View. Can you create a support ticket and provide us with snmp walk of this device so we can look into it.

OK....this makes no sense....all of a sudden it just started to work.. I was about to try the suggestion of switching to SNMPv2 per the support case and I went to the wireless tab and I have data. Not sure why it just suddenly decided to work. Did nothing diffrently, and it was not there an hour before. I Had done the list resources yesterday twice with no change...today it just decided to behave I guess.
