Rename node captions in bulk?

In our current deployment I have spent a good bit of time manually editing each node's caption to reflect a more friendly name. I will be upgrading our entire deployment, basically starting from scratch.

I want to select all of my present nodes by IP address, copy the captions associated with the IP, then somehow import that data into my new database. Thoughts? Thank you!!

The only option I can think of would be to use a script or SQL query to update the names in the nodes.detials table. As the device IP address will remain constant, you could run some form of UPDATE / WHERE combination. You would need have all your nodes in a spreadsheet which induces their IP addresses and the desired name. You could also use Powershell to do it, but it's not something I've personally done myself. Check this link for a discussion where someone needed to do something similar.

Also, take a look at the Orion SDK. There are example Powershell scripts in there, which may help!

Thank you for the response! I agree and think utilizing a SQL query would probably be the best approach. Not being a SQL pro, I was hoping someone could post a specific query or script that would perform this action.
