Windows agent authentication

I have multiple servers that have trouble talking to our domain controllers to authenticate the user used in the SolarWinds WMI queries and create a monitoring problem for us. As a workaround until that issue is fixed (may be months) I was wondering if agents could be utilized on the servers. I assume the servers will need to authenticate the SolarWinds AD account to install the agent, but does the account need to be authenticated after the agent is installed or does the agent run with some kind of local account rights?

I've deployed the agent to several web servers that aren't joined to a domain, and have the agent pointed back to the SolarWinds SAM server.

What I did was create an account within SolarWinds SAM and use that account to authenticate the agents. There's no need for a domain account at all if you use that method. Once the agent is installed, it runs as a service under 'Local System' on the server being monitored.
