We sync WHD 12.0 Hotfix 1 with SCCM 2012 SP1. The sync is based on "Serial Number". The asset number is equal to serial number.
Our tech support group routinely takes a hard drive from one Dell PC (Asset number 1) and puts it into a different Dell PC (Asset Number 2). For example, if a PC won't boot because of a BSOD.
When they do this, and WHD syncs with SCCM, we end up with two (2) Asset Number 1; and Asset Number 2 is gone from WHD.
Is anyone else seeing this? I called Solarwinds support and was told it is not a WHD issue.
I can also reproduce the exact same thing using the following steps. I don't even need to move a hard drive.
Step 1: Pick one asset imported by SCCM. The asset number equals serial number. Call this asset “1234”
Step 2: Pick a second asset imported by Excel or create manually. The asset number equals serial number. Call this asset “5678”
Step 3: Rename asset number and serial number from “1234” to “1234bad”.
Step 4: Rename asset number and serial number from “5678” to “1234”
Step 5: Resync with SCCM 2012 (sync key is serial number)
Step 6: You end up with two assets called “1234” and “1234bad” is missing.
