IP SLA Video Operation

Hi,

In April Cisco announced a new IP SLA Video operation as part of the medianet framework. Will Solarwinds impliment this operation in to the IP SLA Manager and if so, where in the road map does it fall in to?

Essentially the video operation is similar to the VoIP operation, except that it uses video RTP payloads instead of Audio. I believe (though not confirmed) there is also the ability to provide the video payload, essentially allowing yourself to simulate traffic using actual captured traffic.

No plan for this new operation type, as of now, but we are listening (66156).

Is this just a question or do you have a Medianet-based current (or coming) video deployment that you would like to monitor with orion IP SLA?

Hi Francois,

We don't have a medianet-based deployment at the moment, but looking towards the future.

To give you an idea, we currently have 9 office centres that have very active video-conferencing rooms, which all interconnect over our WAN and 4 of those centres are based internationally. With high-definition video conferencing on the radar and also currently looking towards an increase in desktop video conferencing both to these rooms and desktop-to-desktop, ultimately meaning more video traffic over the WAN.

Suddenly, with this increase being able to ensure the quality of video traffic (Similar to the IP SLA VoIP operation already implimented) becomes important. This is where IP SLA Video would come in, simulating to measure that quality with video data rather then just generic UDP jitter operations.

Hi Mark,

We currently have a need for the Video Operation. We are deploying Telepresence and would like to have a way to assess the Video capabilities on our network. Can you give more insight on when this operation might be available in Solarwinds?
