NPM sees device as Cisco, but does not determine machine type?

I have five Cisco devices being monitored via SNMP. They are correctly determined to be Cisco, but the machine type is listed as only "Cisco"; no model number is displayed. The devices are ASA 5585-40, 2851-nme, and 2960cg.

Why doesn't NPM determine the machine type for these devices?

There was a MIB update coinciding with the 10.4 version update, so maybe that is related?

Thanks designerfx, but a MIB update will not help as that file is not used for this purpose. The MIB file is used by the Universal Device Poliler tool.

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain an updated copy of the SWDscovery.cfg file for use with NPM version 10.3.1?

Not sure if the ASA you have is so new as to not be seen correctly but we have an ASA5510 on NPM 10.2.1 and it pulls info correctly. Displays that it is a 5510 model

In our case we had to Under edit properties window change the template to ASA to get the correct info.

I've got the same problem with our 5525 on IOS 8.6(1)2 and got someone from support looking at it and have sent over a MIB walk to see what the issue is and how to fix it and from early mail from support it's Cisco changing the templates in 8.4 which is causing the issue but they're still looking into it.

Thanks jonchill. That seems to explain the issue with my ASAs since they are on version 8.4.

Does anyone have the same issue with the 2851-nme (IOS Version 12.2(52)SE) or the 2960cg-8tc (Version 15.0(2)SE) ?

I think you'll find the same reason for the 15.0(2)SE IOS as with the ASA's.

Has anyone received a resolution from support on this one? I'm having the same problem with my ASA 5525s, as well as my Cisco 3850 switches. Both only discover as a Machine Type of "Cisco". I use a lot of custom views in my environment, so this is quite a hindrance since this effectively makes it so that I cannot customize the views for these two different device models that perform completely dissimilar functions.

While I am not an SNMP expert, it looks like there are different MIBs depending on whether or not the ASA is in multi context mode.
