We have an ESM setup where IT and a non-IT dept will be using the the SWSD platform for managing separate tickets. As IT we'll have some but not all IP based assets, but the non-IT group will need to manage a lot of non-IP units. What we need to figure out, is how to either create a custom form that can be used for asset data entry and or hide some of the fields in the given form for new assets.

In SWSD, asset management is handled through predefined modules like Computers (suitable for IP-based IT assets) and Other Assets (ideal for non-IP units like equipment, vehicles, or furniture managed by your non-IT department).

In ESM setup where multiple departments can manage separate tickets and assets, with data isolation between service providers, form logic (for conditional showing/hiding of fields) is not supported for assets and is limited to incidents, service requests, and service catalog items.

I would try adding customer field. These can be global and you can make it show on both add and edit forms. Default fields are fixed and cannot be hidden to ensure consistency in the CMDB. For non-IP units, simply leave irrelevant fields (like IP) blank they're not mandatory. Use Computers for IT's IP-based assets (auto-discovered via agents/scanners, with fields like IP, MAC, OS). Use Other Assets for non-IT's non-IP units (manual entry or CSV import, with flexible fields suited to varied equipment).
