I woke up to, this beautiful Wednesday morning, only to realize it was only freaking Tuesday. The craziest part was, my wife did the same thing.

Ladies and gentlemen, engineers and end-users alike — today I consider myself the luckiest admin on the face of the earth.

Sure, there was an AWS outage. For a brief, terrifying moment, the dashboards went dark, the alerts lit up, and somewhere, deep in the cloud, EC2 instances wept silently. But by the grace of the sysadmin gods — or perhaps just a very tired Amazon engineer with strong coffee — the issue was resolved before 8:00 a.m.

When I opened my laptop this morning and saw the green checkmarks on the AWS Health Dashboard, I felt something most people only dream of: the sweet relief of uptime. I saw no red indicators, no panicked Slack messages, no frantic Teams calls asking, “Is SharePoint down?”

To the folks at AWS who spent the night in a digital trench rebooting nodes and chasing phantom latency — I salute you. You may never meet me, but you’ve spared me the chaos of explaining to executives why the entire internet was “my fault.”

To my colleagues, who slept soundly through the storm while I refreshed status.aws.amazon.com every two minutes — I envy your blissful ignorance.

And to the cloud itself — fickle, mysterious, and omnipotent — thank you for returning to us, stable and strong, before the CFO had time to ask, “Why do we pay so much for this?”

So, yes, I’ve had my share of outages. I’ve faced 500 errors, failed Lambda invocations, and S3 buckets gone rogue. But today… today, I consider myself the luckiest admin on the face of the earth.
