Most companies (except Solarwinds) give very detailed guides and supports their users to get them DBs that they are going to support. Take VMware for example. You can migrate from a VCenter with any MSSQL into the VCSA using a tool. It works great and is such an awesome tool to get users to move to the virtual appliance.
Solarwinds route..
Here is VA we only support embedded PostgreSQL hardly any documentation and no help from support to get to it.
Tip 
- Create a tool that will allow for simple migration between any of the legacy DBs to the new when moving to the VA. (You guys might be considered awesome then)
