Update a field value based on the values entered in other fields

Hi,

Basically, I am trying to update a field called email address with the values that were entered in first name and last name fields on the form.

If first name = a and last name = b, then the email address should be shown as a.b@domain.com

This is to notify the requester (HR) how the email address will look like so they would be careful to enter the first name and last name accordingly.

Support said this is not possible at the moment. It looked like a useful feature to me but not sure for others.

I too would like to generate field data on the fly based on other fields.. like a text box (calculated name) in the data field calcuate {{FirstName(1,1)}}&{{LastName(1,8)}} would hopefully be users first name 1s character 1 space, & last name 1st character for 8 spaces.. Jim Smith would be JSMITH in the field or something similar like excel can do.
