Change default 'Sort by' from 'Best Match' to 'Date Descending' for Searches

I would like to be able to change my default 'Sort by' from 'Best Match' to 'Date Descending'

as I find I need to do this manually for 95% of my searches to find what I'm looking for quickest.

Initially asked as a question in the Forum, but only had one response suggesting I re-enter it as a feature request. So here it is. Please vote up!

How about an alternative? Being able to define a default sort on searches by technician - like as a 'personal' preference?

I'm just thinking about the scenario where you set this globally and having some technicians being frustrated that they aren't seeing what they thought they should see.

Regardless of how it's implemented, I think this is a great idea and you get my .

Yes, good call... it definitely makes sense for it to be a per technician setting.
I'm thinking just whichever 'Sort by' you choose from the dropdown, should be saved as your 'default' until you change it.
Either that, or an option under My Account > Settings.
Whichever's easiest for the devs I guess?

The more attention I pay to this, the more baffled I am by the 'Best Match' results!
More often than not, the results are wildly not the Best Match, and just being able to sort and easily see the last few tickets logged containing my search term at the top of list is always better.

The Best Match is determined by calculating score for each document for the searched item. The scoring method is called TFIDF - see for example an explanation here: Understanding Similarity Scoring in Elasticsearch (infoq.com)
As you can read in the article, during the process, each field in the document (like name, email etc.) can get a different weight - which influence dramatically the document score. The importance of a specific field can be different for different users. Different users can have different needs, but a request can be done to the support team to change the score (With an example of the search phrase and the expected result) and the development team makes the desired changes to fine tuning the search results.
