SolarWinds - Exporting Network Atlas Maps

Hi THWACK,

We are migrating a 2023.4 deployment to a 2024.1 deployment.

There are around ~500 maps created by users in the 2023.4 deployment that I would like to export so that we can import these into the 2024.1 deployment.

How can I go about exporting these ~500 user-created maps, please? So that I can use the Intelligent Maps import function for these.

Can't seem to find an option to export within the Network Atlas application on the 2023.4 deployment, really hoping there is capability to do this as it is critical for the environment but am conerned after noticing the below forum post and feature request:

Is there a method to backup Orion network maps? Network Atlas is no longer supported so we transitioned to Orion maps

So to be accurate, are you doing an upgrade with the same database or are you standing up a completely separate instance/database for the new version?

If you are upgrading you don't have to do anything special.

If you are standing up a new environment unfortunately an export import process won't actually work anyway, because all the object ID's will not line up across two distinct instances. With SQL, assuming both databases can talk to each other you could grab the json of a map and insert it into the new database but you will see a ton of errors as the nodes won't have the same nodeid and such.

I've thought about building a script to translate maps across instances by basically doing a bunch of lookups and find and replacements inside the json to get the object ID's updated, but its a fairly significant time commitment to make that work reliably and so far I haven't had a client who wanted to book the time to make that happen. I'm pretty certain it could be done if you are motivated enough to figure it out, but depending how good you are at cranking out maps for a one-time use case it might be possible to build 500 maps in about the same amount of time. Might be a challenge to justify the time investment.

Completely separate instance/database for the new deployment and version.

I feared this might be the case -deep sigh-.

I am considering the route of backing up the new deployment's database and replacing it with the database from the old deployment. The first issue with this I can think of though, is, it will reference the IPs and DNS for the old deployment of APEs, WS's, MPE, etc... Hmm.. I will need to give this more thought.
