The general idea is to utilize the existing Advanced Alerting Engine to be able to alert on performance statistics on those servers. Which specific hardware problems would you like to be alerted on? -Craig

In a previous version of APM we implemented tags instead of custom properties. You can specify tags for a given template. We don't yet have the ability to alert or report off of those tags, but something we'd like to get to when priorities permit. -Craig
