We use the engineers edition as a supplimental troubleshooting tool. It has saved our butts on more than one ocassion and is definitely worth the cost. I highly reccomend it. Regards, Dimo

I have seen them reply yes. Not with predictable frequency but they are reading the board.

This HAS been resolved in 7.2. Was having the same problem and it has been corrected by 7.2 to be released soon. Dimo

Does anyone know if solarwinds is considering this? Don Yonce any comments? Thanks, Dimo

Indeed in windows if you have a telnet client installed and set as your default it should use that program to connect when you click the link.

Call support. There is an unsupported add on you can download called "Advanced node details" it's not up on the website but it has been around since 6.4 . You simply drop it into your resources folder and change your node details view to advanced node details and the there will be a web and telnet link to every device…

If you recently upgraded you may want to check that the path of the upgrade is the same as your original path. Sometime it will install one subfolder down in which case you would need to copy all of your maps and custom object into the same destination in the new install folder. Dimo

if your phone supports messaging all you should need to do it plug in your address 6025551234@messaging.nextel.com or 6025551234@mobile.att.net etc. This works just fine for us. You just have to provide the software with a mail gateway to process the messages.

Just as a tip. SNMP strings are case sensitive. Also make sure you are not running any access list which would prevent the polling engine from gaining access to the device. Dimo

I would really love to see the following incorporated into ORION. As a global organization (And I know there are other global users here) these are very important. 1.Being able to set someone’s time zone at the account level so that when they view online statistics they are viewing them in their local time zone (The…

If you have SNMP configured properly on the linux box it should work fine. I monitor RED HAT here. We monitor all *ix flavors. SCO/HP/TRU64/VMS The trick is just configuring SNMP properly and this varies from platform to platform.

I had the exact same problem. It is an issue with the com objects in 7.1. I had the exact same problem and I am testing 7.2 beta. The reports and graphs fly again. Look in your event log on the web server and see if you have just a slew of COM+ errors. You won't be able to miss them there are so many. The problem seems to…

One thing that I recently discovered with the new version: I was having serious performance problems with my machine since upgrading to 7.0. They were not related in any way to some of the things mentioned on this board in previous posts (i.e. lsass etc.) What I found is that for some reason Mcaffe antivirus was slowing…

Are you running the polling engine / web server / and SQL server on the same box?

You can also use custom properties to calssify and group devices. I have done it by region and it works great. Then you just customize a web view and group by that custom property.

1) You can only currently modify one threshold setting for a particular statistic. For example on high packet loss you can only have one setting for a threshold. This applies to all devices in regards to packet loss. You can set a different threshold for memory usage but it is global. ** The ability to set separate…

Frontrange Heat is very good at creating custom help desk ticket forms. A very powerfull application that would also reside on your SQl server. SO you could use sql triggers to automate ticket creation. I would check it out.

NG Has something changed since yesterday. I couldn't find mention of beta anywhere in the admin guides and there was no readme file when I downloaded the install.

It is not strange to see that many discards on a VPN concentrator. What you wanna do it take a sampling and find out what your normal amount of discards is and make that your baseline. The nature of VPN and the way it negotiates encryption and decryption can cause massive amounts of discards. There is REALLY nothing to…

This is very easy and it does not interfere with collection.Make sure you SQL Server Agent is operating otherwise the process cannot be automated. Go into the Solarwinds Database manager and right click on your database. For this example we will call the database "netperfmon". Right click on netperfmon and select "Database…

Logged in to ORION. I want to put together a report that shows how often people are using the tool etc. So I am looking for 1.either the raw data of when and how many times someone has used their ORION login and 2.what reports they pulled up. I would be happy with #1 only.
