FYI, If you're planning to use Advanced Alert with Orion v8.5 make sure you have the latest hot fix. The bug I found is that after an alert have been acknowledged it would then become unacknowlege after several seconds thus making the alert active again. I experienced this the hard way with escalation configured with my…

So, what would be causing the installation to abort if a remote SQL server is supported?

I've just upgraded to version 8.1. The bugs that I've experienced with Advanced Alert have been corrected. However, I cannot say the same for the Basic Alert - it has stop working altogether.

I'm currently testing with net-snmp v5.0.9 - Orion is not detecting disk/swap space resources. How did you got it to work? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Andy

I also ran into the same problem On another issue.. Currently the alerts in the Orion System Manager and the Alert Manager are separate alerts. Does anyone know if Solarwinds will incorporated these together with the Orion NPM website? Currently, only alerts from the Orion System Manager are published on the webpage. CP

I would like to see... 1. incorporate basic and advanced alerts together 2. ability to acknowledge alerts within the Orion webpage 3. ability to import custom mibs 4. alert escalation - the ability to schedule time for an individual or group (on call/not on call) 5. integrate netflow stats with the report writer CP

I'm currently running the new alert engine in a test environment as well - definitely the way to go. You can uninstall it but why create headaches for yourself. Looking forward to your feedback from your testing. CP

quote:Originally posted by salyerma I just noticed that version 7.8.3 was just released. When I look at the bottom of the web pages on my install, I noticed I am running version 7.8.55. I know that I did not upgrade to 7.8.3 before installing the v8 alerting engine beta, so should I *upgrade* to version 7.8.3 or should I…

Hello, I've notice some inconsistency with the macros as well. ${SysName} does not work for Advanced Alerts ${VolumeSpaceUsed} – volume space is displayed as GB with basic alert but with advanced alert it is shown as Bytes. Is this a known bug with advanced alert? CP

quote:Originally posted by Don Yonce Keep in mind, this is a "pre-release", not the final release. On the macros .... we will probably be adding a Macro Builder feature to the actions. The supported Macros in the new engine are far, far more advanced than the previous version. The new set of Macros can be as simple as the…

quote:Originally posted by dperdue Looks like the deletes are not able to keep up with the inserts for your environment. We are looking into problems like this one. Further testing and I discovered another bug with advanced alert. The alert will not trigger on any current day if the previous day is not part of the configuration. For example... You have an alert set for Monday to Friday during business hours (8am-6pm). Being today is Wednesday, if you remove Tuesday from your…

Found new bug - Escalation! Escalation does not work properly. Simple node down trigger condition - do not trigger this alert until the trigger condition exists for 5 minutes. trigger actions #1 (email) - execute this action repeatedy every 2 minutes while the alert is triggered #2 (email) - if the alert is still triggered…

quote:Originally posted by Network_Guru I do agree this is a major bug, but since the old Alerting tool still does the job, I guess SW feels it is not critical. The new alert manager is certainly more versatile and should no longer be considered a beta app. Now everyone must either cross their fingers nothing goes down on…

Does anyone know why Solarwinds did not incorporated the current value and the alert message into the advance alert as well. It would make more sense to see these fileds in both basic and advance alerts. CP

quote:Originally posted by mhazelb Can you please tell me how you did it in the Basic Alerting engine? Thanks so much! Alert suppression is not available with basic alerts, only with Advanced Alerts.

I got the same type of messages after upgrading to v9.1 from v9.0. I applied SP5 but the messages still persist. Our ESX team indicate that the error messages point to an incorrect MIB that Orion is using. Solarwinds will need to re-complie the MIB for VMWare and hopefully it will correct the problem. ESX logs...…
