  • To both Neckmeats and Pserwe Both of you sound as though you feel that the SW products are completely not meeting your needs? I am curious why you haven't moved to a different solution? I ask because this feels as though it has become an Orion bashing session versus constructive feedback opportunity. I am guessing that…
  • Well, just thinking of the cuff here is one idea... Each of the other facilities has an "Alert" option. You could add a new alert option that would essentially send it into this new consolidated view. As part of this it would be nice to be able to set a Severity (Minor, Major, Critical, etc) so that when it arrives in the…
  • The support for SNMP v3 including traps is likely something we are going to require as well as we move forward with our PCI compliance. Just thought I would add my name to the list. = )
  • Thanks kellytice! I opened a support ticket and will be doing a remote session with a tech tomorrow so hopefully he will be able to tell me why the Problems tab isn't showing up. I will be sure to post back here on what I find.
  • Thanks! What I found odd was how the information was truncated. I thought (apparently incorrectly) that data from the log that wasn't normalized would be added to the ExtraneousInfo field.
  • Thanks aLTeReGo! So is that just a SAM thing or is that going to be supported throughout the entire Orion suite soon? We not only have SAM but also NCM and IPAM.
  • Thanks again Roger. In that case I definitely think it would be a nice option to have the application inherit it's name from the template.
  • NPM does have a Syslog service that will collect any syslogs that you forward to it. If you go into the syslog viewer application you can configure it to watch for specific logs and trigger an alert when they are found.
  • if you have the database set to simple, then you should be able to shrink it to 2mb (I don't think it will let you shrink it any lower that that) and it should stay there until a large operation takes place. Let's say you are back in school, and the teacher say's "show your work". The ldf is where you would show your work,…
  • Brandon This did not resolve my problem, I am still getting the following error... System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM-OrionReportWriter.cfg'. File name: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM-OrionReportWriter.cfg' at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32…
  • Awesome, thanks again Rob!
  • I will chime in on this one... Firstly I would like to say that I am happy to see that this was implemented as something that is possible to do. I am assuming that this is the first implementation and that going forward we can expect to see improvements like anything else. We are an MSP with a lot of nodes of different…
  • Brandon, I have seen your post, very detailed, thanks for the easy to understand breakdown. Has anyone heard when WMware will support polling volumes of ESXi 4 hosts via SNMP or API so we can start charting this data? Thanks. We just built an enterprise VMWare ESXi 4 infrastructure and have Orion v10 monitoring it using…
  • @afarmer could you please discribe how you implemented these Dell MIB's to solarwinds? As far as "implementing the MIB's" is concerned, they are likely already in there as SolarWinds uses one file that contains pretty much all the MIB's out there. If you do find one they don't have let them know and they will add it. To…
  • SolarWinds: We would really like to get a definitive answer on this. Thus far the answers I have received from SolarWinds on this have been contradictory. I would like to see a definitive answer from a Product Manager and even better would be to see answered in some official documentation so it is no longer questioned.…
  • Ok, so I am working through this and I am confused at Rule2 1 Rule 2: I'll use PointToPointTrafficAudit (the alert I'm inferring from Rule 1) as my example2 PointToPointTrafficAudit EXISTS 3 IPSecTrafficAudit NOT EXISTS 4 IPSecTrafficAudit.SourceMachine = PointToPointTrafficAudit.SourceMachine 5 IPSecTrafficAudit.EventInfo…
  • I should also note that we use WMI on Windows Server 2008 R2 all of the time without any problems.
  • Thanks for the suggestion; however, this didn't resolve our problem either. This is a really frustrating problem when I hear that other people are able to do this without a problem and without any special configuration, it makes me really want to know what I could possibly be doing wrong. We have two different systems that…
  • I think you need to be a bit more clear with your objective. You say that you want to " monitor Node Down Events of managed nodes"; however "monitor" is a nebulous term can can mean many different things. The question is HOW do you want to monitor (or be alerted on) those node down events (e.g. Dashboard Element, Email,…
  • I really LIKE the idea of packet analysis and some of the stuff he talks about in his book is really cool (or not detectable in logs), but in all practicality it might be too far down in the onion-peeling. ... especially when people are missing some basics. I think I would have to agree, specifically when relating it back…
  • Today I setup an Application Discovery on nodes where I know that the application will work using three different credentials sets that I know will work and after only 4 systems where the application was discovered I started seeing Failures due to SchedulerError; at this point I just cancelled the discovery. Unless I am…
  • Well, you can manually edit the URL with the proper ViewID to get to them. The better way to do this would be to add the view to one of your menu bars which you can do from the Admin section of the WebUI with the "Customize Menu Bars" option.
  • Actually - here's what's happening. Our circuit gets saturated and latency goes up. MPLS starts discarding ICMP so "packet loss" exceeds 40%. Orion is then alerting "XYZ is down". We'd rather it alert the site as down when packet loss is greater than 75%. We only have a T1, and large email attachments can sometimes…
  • So you're saying a RAID 10 set can handle the IO of the tempdb, tlogs, and db? In some environments, yes. It's always best to separate those on different controllers and disks if possible. The thing is, the requirements to support an installation will vary based on it's size, polling frequency, modules being used, etc. You…
  • Thanks, I will try this out if after checking a few other things the problem doesn't get resolved. I certainly hope it doesn't have to come down to actually re-installing a service considering that this was working before.
  • Hrm, maybe I am not following this but we had to purchase an additional item to be able to install APM on our additional poller in addition to purchasing APM to put on our primary NPM system. The specific product we had to buy to do this was called "Orion APM v3 - Polling Engine ALX" which was in addition to "Orion APM v3…
  • To me this type of security hole has me questioning the viability of using Orion as a multi-tenant application which until this I had always perceived it as. Well, I guess I will have to put faith in the development team! = )
  • Thanks, that was my understanding but I wanted to confirm. I really appreciate the fast response!
  • Ok, thanks! I was able to find them just as you pointed out. I wish those gauges were available for more things such as Applications in APM.
  • Yup. = ( And I should note that it was from the exact OID that I was supposed to be excluding. I am beginning to think I might open a ticket on this because it seems to me the logic just isn't processing correctly at this point.
