  • Thanks, I just opened a support case for this (Case # 463526).
  • Are there specific pages or workflows which are slow and painful? I have a list of some of the areas I am aware of. Also let me know how many users do you have hitting the web console? With the additional web server our WebUI for Orion NPM/APM is good... and it's a virtual system running on VMWare as are all of our Orion…
  • For APM the unlimited license really is the best way to go if you have the budget for it and plan on monitoring a lot of servers. Until you have the budget you can try and stretch what you have by only monitoring a few key items per server. You could even get creative by having a script check multiple things per server and…

  • As far as this new issues is concerned, I have not been able to make any specific correlation as it hasn't happened enough times. I will be sure to post more information about it as it comes available. Thanks for asking thought and I will be sure to watch for this.
  • We seem to be having a similiar issue. We are running 9.5 SP4 on Windows 2008 Server. At seemingly random times our statistic colletions stop with no warning. The only way I know is when I go to look at historical data such as CPU or memory utilization on a node the data is missing. Restarting the NetPerfMon service…
  • The difference is that Orion is consistently lower than the other system, the exact difference has a bit of variability as far as I can tell but very close to constant suggesting a math formula difference between the two systems. Since our system is home built it's easy to get the exact formula, it's Orion's exact formula…
  • Hi byrona, Thanks for your super immediate reply. Can you give a example of the best ways to set volume (disk space alerts) for Windows and Linux servers. I have tried....but not have been very successful.....bcoz we are monitoring lots of Windows and Linux servers. Hence had to go with Basic alerts. Shailesh Here is a…
  • If separately they work just fine but together it's not working, I am pretty sure it's because you are calling out two different OID's as part of an AND statement. As best I can tell you are basically telling it "IF OID = X AND OID = Y". When you separate the two it works because you are only calling out one OID.
  • Yeah, I definitely see what you mean by the functionality not being there for what you are trying to do.
  • I would also like to get a trial of this software as well as see some list pricing on the SolarWinds website.
  • JB I completely agree with you on the permission concerns. I have many threads where I have asked for more granular permissions on the Web UI stuff. However, with a good permission structure the web based management would be favorable to me. Right now if I want somebody to have access to alerts I need to give them full…

  • I want to be able to forward Syslog data to LEM from any syslog enabled device such as a network device or Linux server.
  • is there a way to do that without installing anything? No, unfortunately Windows does not natively forward it's logs to Syslog. If you want a very simple and light weight package to install in Windows that works well for this you might check out NTSyslog.
  • Our solution was to have the primary syslog/trap servers configured w/ your regular alerting, and configure the backup server to simply log everything to a flat file (we rotate this file every day). This way when the primary server dies(totally), you'll still have a text file w/ searchable information, although alerting…
  • Well, it will suffice; however, I would prefer the functionality like you mention for the traps where I can alert by number of occurrences per time... at least in some cases that would be the preferred method.
  • Do you know if a solution to the Compaq MIBS has been resolved. I am still experiencing the same problems for the traps received in Solarwinds. I have contacted Solarwinds but to date nothing has changed. Currently there isn't a good solution for making the Compaq traps or any other traps easily human readable. The best…
  • Wow, bumping the app pool resolves the issue. That is good info to have, thanks for posting that!
  • There can be more types of component on one application template requiring different credentials even for same node (for some probes you may need windows credentials, for other SQL credentials etc.), so the "inherit from node" option probably would not be so easy to design. While I take you point regarding the possibility…
  • Awesome, this is good to hear! Thanks for the prompt response.
  • I have the same problem where the Hostname is populated with the IP address so I am really looking forward to having access to variables from other areas in the database, specifically the Node table.
  • How would you resonably expect SolarWinds to collect data that isn't available to collect? I am curious to understand how you would expect they could solve this? This is one of the reason a lot of products in this space are agent based, by having an agent you have more access to more data. With SolarWinds being an…
  • There is a great White Paper that was written on Advanced Alerting that might help to explain how to best setup suppression; typically embedding them as part of the Trigger Condition is the best way to go. http://www.solarwinds.com/support/Orion/docs/UnderstandingOrionAdvancedAlerts.pdf
  • That would be your problem. The suppression doesn't exactly work as you might expect; it doesn't have any association to what is in the trigger condition. Basically what this says is that if you have any device in Orion where Volume Percent Used is less than 68, the alert will not trip. If you remove this I am guessing it…
  •  We keep our prices down relative to the Big 4 management companies This is just simply not true anymore for some of us at least. By the time you add all the hardware, OS, pollers, and Modules for SolarWinds, in our case it is about the same or even in some cases, SolarWinds has a higher TCO. Without data I can't really…
  • While I can't say 100% it generally does seem often related to a node rebooting or a poller service restart.
  • So what all are you looking for here? What are your primary concerns? Are you looking for a more robust HA/DR solution than our existing Hot Standby Engine? Brandon While I can't speak for everybody, I can speak for myself... Something more robust than the current Hot Standby Engine would be nice. We have the Hot Standby…
  • Thanks. So you can see how it's hard to tell what the average statistic was over the period of time right? Yes, I can see what you are talking about but I think that's the nature of graphs. If you want a more clean way to figure the average for a specified period you could use a report that is embedded in the view by using…
  • Have you looked at some of the articles in the knowledge base on SW.com? There are a couple items in there that may explain the issue you are seeing. While I was admittedly unaware of the Knowledge Base (thanks for pointing that out, I will be sure to consult with it in the future) I was unable to find anything in there…
  • That is very much so possible. But then you run into the conundrum: would you rather have SNMP data or SQL data going over the wire back to the mothership? Well, I think I would be comfortable with sending either so long as it was encrypted via something like a VPN. If anybody out there has done this with Orion I would be…
  • So what else would you like to monitor on your ESX/ESXi boxes outside of what we provide today? Well, at the moment (based on what I am currently working on) I would like to get the HP Hardware level information (temperature, HD Status, Fan Status, etc) that I used to be able to get with a combination of the HP Agents and…
