Your problem is in the reset condition. Think about it: You have 4 CPU's which are reading 1%, 20%, 5% and 95% Your trigger returns the fact that CPU 4 is > 80% But your reset trigger returns the fact that CPU 1, 2 and 3 are < 80, so it resets as soon as it triggers. As mentioned elsewhere, SQL queries are notoriously…

Turns out jeremymayfield had a change in plans, so YOU, my friend, are the next lucky winner! Email me at leon.adato@solarwinds.com to make arrangements.

That's a cautionary tale for me and Dez for sure!

I'm OK with that, You are never a "recovered" geek. You might be in recovery, but it's never gone. As for me, I may have admitted I'm a geek, but I'm not yet ready to address "the problem".

Interesting and common perspective. I'd like to counter with one of the points we made in the lab episode: certs can get you into a community of folks faster than "hanging around and proving you know the material". It's not that you CAN'T do it the second way, it just takes longer. Also, certs can sometimes get you access…

NOW you've given me a solid reason to go see it. I was on the fence. I never read the manga of it, but I've seen all the reviews and spoilers (that's my mutant super power: I'm invulnerable to spoilers) so I don't think I'll be horrified. Now if you asked me to do it for "Cowboys versus Aliens"...

For everyone who mentioned ThwackCamp (and even for those who didn't) you can now find information on our Summer 2015 extravaganza here: thwackCamp 2015 You can also see how excited HeadGeeks like patrick.hubbard are getting about the whole affair: thwackCamp 2015. It's ON!

While these are "basic blocking and tackling" thoughts (I'm not minimizing them - many organizations clearly need to get back to these basics), here are some moderately simple things I'd like to see standardized in customer service which would actually make it EASIER to help customers: * If you google it for me, I swear I…

Out of curiosity, have you checked out the beta for NPM 12? You may be pleasantly surprised.

I've posted about this before as well. You can find my analysis here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/57866

"Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned." This should go on my headstone. Meanwhile, be prepared to share YOUR thoughts in the comments area one of the days of the challenge. Everyone would love to see them!

"Don't give in to trite phrases that cover up workplace deficiencies (e.g.: "Work smarter, not harder.") ." Welp, you just guessed one of my upcoming articles!

You guys ( bluefunelemental, jhandberg) raise an important point. Of course, if you've used SolarWinds tools for any length of time, you know that products grow incrementally - adding features as they go. While I can't speak to future development plans (no really. I actually have NO IDEA what's on the slate for the…

Wait, what did *I* do??? This was all tinmann0715 . Never the less, it *IS* impressive. Nice bit of writing. Well done.

awwwwwww. You're making me blush.

Fair point. One work around is to create a second website on the server (just copy the entire /inetpub/solarwinds folder to another folder under /inetpub, and then set up another website pointing to the new directory, using a different port, like 8080). Then make your modifications to the second site. Then colorblind users…

Point taken and agreed. Keeping confidences/secrets is very different, philosophically, than a bold face self-interested lie. When I've been in the situation, however, the feeling (for me, at least) is functionally the same. I am telling untruths or withholding truths. That I am doing it for a reason that goes beyond my…

What's with the lack of volume love? No dropdown option in "Manage Nodes", no custom properties. Come on guys, why villify the volume? Why diss the disk? Why malign the mount point? - Leon

I think all of us old... I mean "weathered" IT folks sometimes fall into the trap of "if it ain't broke, don't upgrade it" because we'd been burned in the past. That bad experience may not even have been with THIS software (or vendor), but we still feel skittish about the whole affair. As piankiller411 mentions a little…

OK, gang. So for the record, so far the score is: Standards? Who needs em? - zero Standards? Bring 'em on! - infinity I'm now going to play the role of the devious but pointy-haired boss. (shakes out hands, closes eyes to focus, smacks head soundly on the desk to disrupt regular neural processing, and...GO!) While there…

Tova was the great white ground cloud, and she had the habit of walking up to strangers, sitting and stare up at them with soulful, kohl-rimmed eyes, and (just as they were crooning about how polite, how regal, how ladylike she was) would burp right in their face. Macaroni was a grumpy old man trapped in a fat cat's body,…

When the latest Superman movie came out, someone I know said "no spoilers" and I was like "WHAT SPOILERS COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE WORRIED ABOUT. CLARK. IS. AN. ALIEN!!!"

Have you looked at the Message Center, and specifically the "Audit" messages? You only see them if you are logged in as a full administrator, but once there they will tell you about add/move/change of devices, interfaces, volumes, applications, components and more. It even has the time when Solarwinds users log in.
