  • It's in the on-line help dox: <www2.solarwinds.net/.../SystemManager.htm> Specifically here: <www2.solarwinds.net/.../Alert_Macros.htm I find the web dox are more up to date than the local help files in Orion. I think you can even change the help file location to point to the on-line web admin files. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Hey Steve, would you be willing to export the Cisco chassis temperature MIBs to the ContentSharingZone ? I've just upgraded to V8.1 & would like to play around with these. Perhaps I can figure out an alert for this.
  • Yes, the Map Maker is actaully designed to do this. You create multiple maps, each with more details than the previous. Once you have created them all, you nest them, so that you can drill down from a 25,000 ft level right down to 10 ft. I suggest you read the mapmaker portion of the admin guide, and watch the video…
  • quote:Originally posted by Joakim I´ve moved to a 2Ghz machine with 640MB RAM monitoring only 100 elements right now. More RAM. "640Mb is not enough for anyone" If you are running SQL on this server as well, you definitely need more RAM. At least a Gig, preferably 2. Here are the system specs on my server which runs…
  • You need more memory... at least 2 gig. www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp I am running the same server spec as you have, but 4 times the RAM. SQL uses 1.7Gb alone. IIS uses 150Mb, NetPerfMon uses 130Mb. Web site performance is good, loading 1300x1000 pixel network map in about 3-5 seconds. Homepage with ~ 500 nodes about…
  •  Hey Craig, you can see new nodes added in the Event Manager. Just select the time range & you will see all nodes added, deleted or changed, depending on the type of event selected.
  • Yes, you could use Report Writer for this, or you can create a custom home page with only the node CPU & Memory displayed (depending on how many nodes you have, this could become a very large and cunmbersome page to navigate). The Report Writer would give a much cleaner - non graphical output, and you can easliy customize…
  • I was also going to suggest you build a custom Node Details page as per Don's Post. As far as account & view limitations go, you may run into issues if you use both Node & Interface custom properties to limit the Customer's view as per this post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Sounds like you're doing fine with the Web Interface Duncan. Have you played with the Custom Property Editor? You can limit views on the Customer's web page using any property you've configured in CPE. You can also filter the Web views using these Custom properties which can be assigned to either Nodes, Interfaces or…
  • Hi Duncan, you can do this with Orion "Report Writer". If you have a Solarwinds Orion maintenance contract it is downloadable from the customer downloads page - additional components. It allows you to add peak, min, max & average latency as well as others such as packet loss to a single report over just about any time…
  • Do a search in this forum for; gap nightly maintenance www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • This is possible today. You must change the query in the URL from 5M to 1M. abapp202/.../CustomChart.asp abapp202/.../CustomChart.asp You can create a custom resource with this Sample Size as the default.
  • Hi Jon, I tried to create a similar report where one of the filters was being used in a similar format as yours. I wanted it to show only nodes with less than 100% uptime for the previous week. I ran into the same sort of thing as this. I mentioned it to Solarwinds support, and I was told this is an advanced SQL query…
  • 7.3 was officially released yesterday - July 27th. Here are the release notes from the Updates web page: Resolved Issues for Orion Version 7.3 Network Discovery Network Discovery - Bug ID Number 437 was resolved. More details at support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm Polling Engine Polling engine altered to allow a…
  • See my post here: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/71431
  • See my previous post regarding polling frequency. 60 second polling frequency too frequent in my opinion. If your server gets loaded down in any way (like running SQL reports or nightly DB maintenance) you WILL miss polls. You must receive a lot of false node down alerts at this polling frequency. As far as I know, the…
  • Sadly, Orion is not capable of graphing multiple values on a single graph. This has been requested before & would be a huge feature improvement. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~
  • The Solarwinds toolsets can do the interface stats in 5 second intervals, but only visually. www.solarwinds.net/.../index.htm www.solarwinds.net/.../index.htm There is no logging of this info at this type of interval that I'm aware of. You can use Netflow for this & set the collection interval to 30 seconds, but then you…
  • Hi Siddeek, This is not possible at this time, although it is one of the most asked for features. It may be something which Solarwinds will release in a future version. You can purchase a remote management pack, but this is not exactly what you are looking for. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Len, I haven't used the post to Web page feature yet, but I have set up alerting to send a web page via e-mail. Here is a sample of what the URL to send looks like: ORION/.../CustomChart.asp I find a chart or graph which I want to send by surfing to the web page on Orion. I then copy & past the URL into the Trigger URL…
  • Perhaps you can send the alerts to your helpdesk server using SNMP trap from Orion, and have these imported/logged into the database using a third party util, such as Kiwilogger? There are many different ways to do this, all depending on your help desk software. Can it receive e-mails and input them into the database? You…
  • Have you also moved the polling engine to a new server? If so, you will have to run the following query in the database manager: Update Alerts Set EngineID=y Where EngineID=x This means if your old server was polling engine 1(x) and the new server is polling engine 2(y) you tell the software to base the alerts on the new…
  • That IS cool Rog. You da man! I'm going to give that a try is well. We have the Eng Edition running on a desktop PC, so I will have to map a directory on the Orion server, but it should work. I haven't played with the SNMP graph yet, but it sure sounds promising. -=Cheers=- NG
  • I had stopped monitoring the CPU utilization for 6 weeks or so. I upgraded Orion from 7.0 to 7.0.5 during this time period, as well as installing the March 2004 MIB updates. The CPU stats have been fine since then. I did log a ticket with Solarwinds support on this issue before I did the upgrading/MIB patching. Here is the…
  • I >>>can<<< get it to display the temperature of my switches. Hi Paul, What other things are you monitoring on what kind of switch? The only thing I get is CPU & Memory, as well as the interfaces. Without customizable MIB support, you "shouldn't" be seeing anymore than this. If you are, please let us know what your secret…
  • That's exactly what NetQos does for you. It's an appliance which runs it's own database, collecting netflow stats from various routers on your network. The Orion Web Gui is then setup to send queries to the NetQos database according to the host you have selected in Orion, just as you have suggested. We will be doing an…
  • quote:Originally posted by pwinterhalder Unless I'm mis-understanding, why can't you untick the ports from within the alerts window? Phil. That does not affect the status of the nodes/interfaces on the web page. They will still show as blinking red on the Node(switch) and red on the interface/link which is down. It sounds…
  • Your CPU's are 1Ghz faster than my DL380, but your RAM is much lower. If you are running the DB on this server as well, then I suggest upping the RAM to at least 2Gb. I run 3Gb on mine with 675 nodes, 3500 interfaces, 61 volumes. The DB uses 1.7Gb of Ram alone. I have seen the dllhost.exe up to 300Mb, but that usually…
  • What are your server specs? Try doing a: >Start>run> msinfo32 & Post hardware info here. How many nodes, Interface, Volumes? What are your polling times set to? Have you compacted the DB lately? Are you monitoring your Orion server with Orion. How much free memory. What's the CPU doing? -=Cheers=- NG
