Are you using the RW SNMP community string? Do you have any SNMP ACL's set on your router? Do you have an ACL set on the TFTP server? Is the TFTP server set to both read and write? -=Cheers=- NG

You can do a MIB walk of the device with the Engineering Edition toolset. You should then be able to find the OID for the parameter you want to monitor. -=Cheers=- NG

All the alerting properties are already in the database, so this shouldn't be too hard to do. I don't see this as a huge change in the alerting engine. I've tried to create a report in report writer to show me what alerts are setup for which nodes, and to whom they go to. Sadly my SQL skills are rather lacking, so I can…

You can download the custom code here (thanks Vic). There is (was?) a long post on this forum with discussions around this feature, but it seems to have vanished I just finished doing multiple searches for the past 10 minutes and am unable to find the thread - doh!

Yep, same here. Submit button on this page does nothing. http://orion/Orion/NCM/Admin/Settings/SMTPServer.aspx I also do not receive any e-mail from NCM - alerts or job completion reports, even though the correct SMTP server setting shows up. NCM 7.2.2 & NPM10.7

Check the ACL on the Win2k servers. Microsoft has changed the security to deny all SNMP access to the server, unless the IP or Name of the poller is in the ACL under security settings. -=Cheers=- NG

Yes, you have hit the nail on the head. Create a custom view with a limitation based on a Custom Property you want to use to summarize the devices, and then add that view to your tool bar menu. When you open that view any Network Wide Summary placed in that page will be for just those devices you have specified with the…

Edit the SNMP name in the database directly by running a query similar to; Update Nodes Set Community=<new-name> Where Community= using the Database Manager. -=Cheers=- NG

Andrei, Please see the following post to work around this feature. www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

Yes, the IP network browser can give you some of this info, assuming you have the SNMP community string for the printer. I suggest downloading the demo & trying it out yourself. -=Cheers=- NG

Just an FYI, I just found a bug in the Web update which affects my filtering and views. When updating certain properties a space is prepended to the text. The space is treated as a separate character when filtering the property for the Orion Web access permission or Report Writer reports. The space does not show up on the…

I can't answer that, but the on-line video tutorials are quite good, as well as the context sensitive built-in help. Now that so much has been added to Orion, if you are a new user without the benefit of any historical usage, it can be somewhat overwhelming when you see all the features for the first time. -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Don, that would be a great help in Managing the devices in Orion. However, just like in the CPE, you can only edit fields which you have created or listed in the "Add" field, like "Manager's dogs name". Any field in CPE with the heading in black text is fixed in the DB & cannot be edited directly in CPE. It is either a…

BB is correct. I've found that Cisco 3620/40 routers do not have the serial number in the MIB. There is a 'HW' serial #, but Cisco will not accept this for maintenance purposes. Here are the 2 MIBs I used: Cat Switches, etc. - 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.11.1 Cat 1900 switch - 1.3.6.1.4.1.437.1.1.3.1.22.0 These got over 95% of…

Herman, if you have maintenance on your Toolset application, login to the customer area & download the Excel SNMP plug-in from the additional components area. I just used this to do our yearly Cisco maintenance inventory & retrieved the serial #s for over 700 Cisco devices onto one Excel spreadsheet. See this post for more…

That was my concern as well in a previous post. Our current syslog server is receiving in excess of 20k messages/hour, and once we log all of our devices, I suspect this will be around 40k/hr. I was reading the on-line admin guide for 7.7, but there is no mention even made about the syslog module. I'm hoping there's some…

Have you gone through the following document? www.cisco.com/.../products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800c75d0.html You must have CEF enabled as well. -=Cheers=- NG

Yes, Orion can monitor these switches !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are many reasons why the SNMP polling might be failing. * Is there a Firewall between the polling server and the switch? * Is there an ACL in the switch config allowing SNMP polling from only certain IPs (best practice for security). * Are the…

quote:Originally posted by jneiberger I'd first like to say that all of you who said that Orion was easy and quick to setup are smoking crack! :-) Anyway, to the point of this post. Do any of you have any thoughts on how to scale Orion so that it is still easy to use, it provides a nice NOC status screen, and can send out…

There is an Enterprise version of Visio which will auto-map your network, but I have not tried it, so I can't say how useful it is. -=Cheers=- NG

Hi Steve, You can make any page your default home page, and add or remove any page view from the menu. Just make sure you have checked the advanced features box on the Web Admin page. You can then remove the map view from your home page. This also allows you to create different menus for various users with views limited to…

Do a search in this forum for "scanner" Here is one topic with a few answers: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp If you have the EE there is a Port Scanner tool which may help. -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Terry, welcome to the World of Solarwinds! You must be referring to the Cisco 3548XL switches? That is normal CPU for those "switches" (I use the term loosely when referring to those). Do a search in this Forum for "Discards" using the search button on the top right of this page. There have been a number of posts…

I hit the same "bug" on a fully loaded L2 & L3 6513. CPU would spike to 100% everytime the topology was polled. I disabled topology polling to resolve this issue. It is in a data center which is a static environment. In this case, I'm not sure why one would want to poll the topology more than say once a month? ...thanks…

If you have a Directlink account configured, you are most likely accessing the map using this account. Once you click on a link in the map, then you are getting prompted to login, as the directlink account does not allow access to any other resources, other than the initial URL. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find--->…

Try enabling the 64bit counters in the node details page & see if this helps. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~

Your Paging/SMS Service Provider may only accept mail from a valid e-mail address/domain. Do you have the "from" field filled out with a valid domain as well? or Your SMTP server for outbound mail, may not be the same one Outlook uses to send mail.... ? -=Cheers=- NG

You must use the URL, not the directory & file location to publish to remote server: orion-server/.../aaa.gif Check out the on-line dox: www.solarwinds.net/.../Chapter 4.htm Get or Post a URL to a Web Server You may specify a URL when the Alert is triggered and for when the Alert is reset within the text fields provided in…

Hi Ken, The solution to this problem is to use loopback addresses on all your routers. As long as one interface is up, you should always have access to the loopback address for monitoring. This way you will avoid having duplicate entries for the same device in the database. Using loopback addresses to manage routers is a…

According to this post: Do the two products share Custom properties now ? meaning if you change a custom property in NPM does that filter onto NCM. Yes they now share custom properties. * It is no longer possible to add new custom properties to NCM without adding it to Orion * It is no longer possible to add new or edit…
