  • Upon further spirited discussion with my team members, we have decided we need a different tool to manage subnets. IPAM is able to manage IP's but has limited functionality for managing subnets. The views are IP centric based and do not work for subnet management. The question was raised - what is our authoritative source…
  • What version of Orion are you running on your server? There was an issue in earlier versions with missed polling on the locally connected LAN subnet. You can do a search in these forums for more info on this. -=Cheers=- NG
  • You can also just change the URL to "">orion-server/.../admin" to access the admin page. In fact I use this exclusively to access this page, so I'm not wasting menubar space with the admin link. You can access this from your regular account & there is no need to login as admin (just change your account profile to allow web…
  • If you have yearly maintenance, then just go into the customer section & download the Report Writer Exclusions file. It does exactly what you are looking for. Also have alook at these posts: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Also see this topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp You can add this feature (among a few others) to the menu on the left side of the admin page. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Windows 2003 Server allows 2 simultaneous RDP sessions as well as one more to the console. So you could have 3 NPM's in at one time. I've found RDP to be far superior to any other remote control package out there. It is just as responsive as being right on the console, even form across the country. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Hi John, I suggest you contact Solarwinds Sales for more info on this product, as there really is no other product documentation on the website. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by sywhit The SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 121 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.” While the error appears quite often and is annoying, by setting the service to restart itself…
  • Another thing to try, is to tweak your query. Keep in mind that how you order the query has a big impact on the DB response time. Make sure you have the most specific query first. Example, if you have 500 nodes & 8000 interfaces & you want an interface report for specific interfaces, try to filter out the nodes first,…
  • That is not following best security practices to bypass your FW with the laptop. You are better off to add a FW rule to allow SNMP 'gets' only from your Internal trusted network to your DMZ switches. -=Cheers=- NG
  • OK, If you don't mind a bit of pain once in a while, here's a solution: - Take your Viso diagram and save it as a JPG(remember the exact size you saved it as). - Save this JPG on the Orion server - Create a new map, with the saved JPG as the background. - Now drag all the Network components onto the background diagram.…
  • I'm not sure I understand the question, but if you using Orion, it includes a MapMaker application that does this for you. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by JMP Nice function! I'm trying this out and have a question. It looks like the code is selecting how many nodes are down but in the text it states 'Number of Sites Down'. Should that say Nodes instead? Or is there some way to define a site? The nice thing about this resource is that you can add a…
  • Bryan, Have you tried exporting to HTML instead? Excel is limited to 65K rows, so you will not get the full export anyway.
  • Looking at the Orion home page, it appears it's being offered for sale now. www2.solarwinds.net/.../index.htm Here's the sales sheet: www2.solarwinds.net/.../ApplicationMonitor.pdf Orion Management Packs: PDF PRICING DOWNLOADS Wireless Networks Management Pack $2495 Application Monitoring Management Pack $1495 Hot Standby…
  • If you have two links between OSPF areas or BGP AS' it's most likely due to routing. If you don't have some kind of load sharing setup, all the traffic in one direction has moved to the other link. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for…
  • Hi Denny, We are trying to use this information to track utilization & traffic patterns of application servers. This is would be used for reporting/capacity management & troubleshooting purposes. As an example, we have a DB server which regularily sees 100% CPU utilization for during the weekday. Using Netflow to track the…
  • Are you talking about Orion Report Writer? If so, yes, & then this post should be in the Orion forum. -=Cheers=- NG
  • We use putty as both our telnet & ssh client in Orion. See this post for more details on how to implement it: This allows us to use a single line for either telnet or ssh according to what we have in the "access" field in Custom Property Editor. Of course as per Greg's suggestion you can also use the right click custom…
  • Check the bandwidth setting of the interface. If it is not set correctly on the interface, then NPM will use this figure for calculating the percent utilization. You can adjust either the monitored device, or manually in the interface properties in NPM. -=Cheers=- NG
  • TFTP only works over an ethernet network. If you are trying to upgrade the IOS via the console cable (9600 baud) you need to use a terminal program which includes file transfer capabilities, such as kermit, or X-modem. -=Cheers=- NG
  • This sounds like a sniffer function. There is no other device that I know of, that can alert you to TCP retransmissions on the Network. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Actually all I did was a search in this forum for Excel. I finally figured out why the links in this forum are broken sometimes. My guess is SW is using 2 different Web servers for these forums. The URL's are slightly different & depending on which server you happen to hit, the link will be broken. All I did was remove the…
  • See this post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • You can add customized links in the node details page by editing the following file: file name: 70-telnet.resource path: \inetpub\solarwinds\netperfmon\resources\9-1-miscellaneous The details are in the following post: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Look for posts by Rix & Isaac. -=Cheers=- NG
  • The custom MIB poller was a beta in 7.8.5 You need to download & install the latest 8.0 version to get this working again. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~
  • Thanks for the replies so far. It's certainly easier to right size the servers and DB when one has specs for similar installations.
  • quote:Originally posted by neric I also have a problem doing utilization reports since the monitor shows the full bandwidth capability of the circuit and not what it's throttled down to. I'd be very interested in any solution to this. In System Manager right click on the ATM interface and select interface properties. At…
  • Depends on what your are looking for ? Engineering Edition allows you to graph any MIB you want, and can publish it to the Orion site as well. -=Cheers=- NG
  • The MIB DB on applies to the SolarWinds Toolsets. There are no downloadable MIBs for Orion. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no more waiting for answers~
