  • Yes, these are major changes which many of us have requested. Managing the devices has become quite complex & time consuming (since V5) now that there are so many new features to manage. Here are some major management improvements that would benefit all customers, but in particular, those with very large networks with…
  • Yes you are correct, you must use 2 separate lines, one for each interface: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • I'm going through this step as well, but have some serious concerns. When I add the credentials, there is a link that says "minimum level requirements" (which is broken in 4.1 BTW). Doing a search for Voice Gateway CLI on the linked page I find this helpful information: You are here: VNQM Administrator Guide > Configuring…
  • Were are you seeing the reboots - in Orion or on the actual NT4 box itself? You may be a victim of the false reboot reporting issue with the SNMP uptime counter. Check the event log on the Call Pilot server to verify if it has actually rebooted. www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=-…
  • You can filter by IP directly on the Orion web page. There are up to 3 layers of grouping as well as an advanced filter. quote:Filter Nodes Filters are optional and can be used to limit the list of Nodes displayed. This is an advanced feature. We recommend you have a basic understanding of SQL Queries. Show Filter Examples…
  • Hi Sean, Number 2 & 3 are already possible using the Solarwinds Engineering edition software which now integrates with Orion. The Switch port mapper is still a manual process, but the results can be exported to a web page which can be linked to or hosted on the Orion server. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Automatic Advanced Network Troubleshooting - AANT Run advanced troubleshooting tools when predefined thresholds are exceeded. 1 - Run the traceroute tool when any node exceeds 10% packet loss and record results to DB. 2 - Grab the top 10 talkers from Netflow when a link exceeds 85% util. & write to Orion DB. 3 - Run the…
  • The documentation describes how to do this. Basically, you back-up your database with the built in Database manager, copy the back-up file to the new server, Install Orion (don't forget to get your license reset by Solarwinds support) on the new server, fire up the database manager and restore the back-up file. Call the…
  • quote:Originally posted by zhct1 I feel that the report writer is on of the most important features of Orion V7 as I monitor over 6000 elements, including more than 300 leased lines which I constantly review for usage. What I would love to see in V8 is a more powerful, slicker, and less time consuming report writer. I…
  • Most of the top 5 features I was looking for are already covered here, but I just came across a cool idea. I just installed RSS ticker on my PC. Having Orion generate a custom XML RSS news feed would be a great feature. You could then keep one eye on the pulse of your network, without having Orion open all day. It would…
  • You can do this with the Report Scheduler add-on, available from the ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS section when you log in with your customer ID & Password: support.solarwinds.net/.../Unsupported.cfm It will e-mail out an HTML copy of any Report using the built-in MS Task Scheduler. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Hi Chuck, What you want is possible, but you have to do a bit of work. If you're good at HTML code you can cutomize the page quit nicely. See my example in this post on how to display multiple graphs on one page: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • You require a Custom MIB for this, which Orion does not currently support. We use PRTG to pull this info from our load balancers to graph this info. You might also be able to pull this data using the Solarwinds EE Custom Mib grapher. It has an option to publish the graph to a web page, which could be on your Orion server.…
  • I believe Version 7 does run under Win2k3: www.solarwinds.net/.../SystemReq.htm -=Cheers=- NG
  • Jason, If you are using IE, just hold down your shift key when clicking on the node & a new window will be opened.
  • quote:Originally posted by gert SNMP v3 That's definitely another must have! Now with the SOX compliance requirements, everything must be encrytped. Telnet > SSH, SNMP > SNMP V3. What's next HTTP >HTTPS for the browser interface? -=Cheers=- NG
  • I agree with Bryan. Perhaps the filter can be setup to use a different .asp file which is not setup to auto-refresh? Another hugely useful feature would be 'saved filters' in Custom Property Editor. This would save creating the same filter everytime I open CPE to cutdown the node count from hundreds to a few dozen. Of…
  • It's a great idea, but I think the idea is to sell more software licenses? Otherwise a comany of 10,000 could buy just one EE and let all the other departments use it for free with the web plugin..... -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by 2020quote:Originally posted by aSquared Sidetrack a little. Has anyone here overcome the issue of ORION not able to monitor Service ports. Do you have any alternatives to this? I'm certain i read/heard something about an Orion Application Monitor... Does anyone else have any info of help...does…
  • Issue turned out to be IE8 (our corporate standard). Page loads fine in Firefox and IE10.
  • Case # 622620 Created: Adding devices to VNQM submitted. 8 hours to add 50 nodes is not acceptable performance.
  • quote:Originally posted by aLTeReGo I just bought this product and I'm very disappointed that the port descriptions on my Cat6500 series switches are not populated automatically. As I have well over 100 ports per 6500 this is a huge pain in the ass. How about before we trick this product out with all sorts of cool new…
  • Licensing of Orion NPM is based upon the highest of one the following three values: Total number of managed network interfaces - including switch ports physical interfaces virtual interfaces sub-interfaces VLANS etc. Total number of managed nodes - including routers switches servers access points modems etc. Total number…
  • So if a device is unmanaged, does this mean it's removed from all alerting as well? When we are doing maintenance at 3AM, it would be great to unmanage the device so that everyone else on the team does not get SMS'd awake. I will be trying this next week when we shut down a router and replace it with a newer one.…
  • You can do this by creating a custom HTML page. See the following post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Just tried it again using the new registry location. Still no joy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolarWinds.Net\Orion Network Performance Monitor\Settings REG_SZ true Or is it case sensitive and I need to specify "True" ? I don't want to restart the polling service un-neccessarily, as it generates false node down alerts when…
  • quote:Originally posted by Janis1 To set up this feature, you will need to add the Value String of Allow Unmange to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SolarWinds.Net/SWNetPerfMon/Settings folder. Then set the value to True and restart the Orion service. When you right-click on a node within the System Manager, there will now…
  • Not sure if you are aware of the "Search for Nodes" view, but it basically does what you are looking for. You can search for nodes based on any property, excluding interface of volume properties. It can be added to the webpage by selecting "Search Nodes" from the Node Lists drop down radio button when you customize a view.…
  • The Engineering Edition has a little util called "Proxy Ping". I haven't checked, but if it can publish the results to a web page, then you could add that page to your Orion server. Of course, that's assuming you have the EE. I did something similar using the Network Management util, by mapping a drive to my Orion server.…
  • Setting up alerts amongst a list of 500 nodes or 2000 interfaces is also a lot of work. It would be nice to use a filter based on a custom property to select which nodes/interfaces you actually see to setup alerts, or even base the alerts on a filter/tag of a custom property. Using something like a Report Writer interface…
