The syscontact idea would work if you could use a macro for the users e-mail address. You'd have to test this yourself. OR As Kaj mentioned, you can create a separate alert for each user or group of users you want to notify, and then select the group of devices that this alert pertains to. The Alerts field does get quite…

Hello Lars, Reagarding point #1, That is exactly how the new System Manager is supposed to work. It's meant to reduce the load on the server when you open it. I'm still on V7.6 & I see missed polls if the System Manager is left open for any length of time. Check in the Task Manager on your server & you will see it chewing…

If you read the rest of this post, you will see that Plixer has written the code to do this. I had nothing to do with this web integration, other than…

quote:Originally posted by asl-support Hi NG, I noticed you used a screenshot of our Orion integrated with Scrutinizer there and not the one on the Plixer site. Is there any reason for this? It's not a problem, just curious. Chris Hey Chris, The screenshot on the Plixer site does not show the Netflow graph: It seems like…

Best regards grisu Sorry, my bad - it's called Scrutinizer (as per the other post in this thread). They have even written a custom web interface for Orion: www.plixer.com/.../scrutinizer_solarwinds.php -=Cheers=- NG

I've been evaluating several different Netflow products over the past year, and I must agree with John, NFA has the best GUI of all that I have tried. The biggest downfall with NFA is that the links are dynamic Java applets that cannot be easily integrated into Orion. Crannog does have this capability, but the UI is no…

quote:The Wise and Noble Isaac has posted <snip> It would add 10,000+ to the price tag for Orion. For all us kids out here in the cold world with continually declining IT budgets that would be a back breaker. I want custom mibs! Argh!!! Adding custom MIBs would also increase the value of this product dramatically! This…

Thanks for the info Isaac. From what I've read, Netflow Tracker gives you detailed 1 minute stats and normally purges the data after a week. Netflow Monitor on the other hand has 10 minute stat intervals & can keep the data for up to a year. I will be installing the demo software on another server & just create a link to…

Thanks for the link Debbi. That's just what we've been looking for! I've not yet had a chance to eval Netflow Monitor, but haved tried NetQos Network Analyzer. It's great product, but VERY pricey. How long have you had Netflow Monitor? Did you install it on the same server as Orion? If not, does the web page integration…

It should be in the database. OR Can you access the following URL: your-orion-server/.../ You could go into IIS and enable anonymous access to get to the admin page, once you have changed your admin password, go back into IIS and change permissions back to the previous setting. -=Cheers=- NG

Download and install the Account Manager from the Unsupported Tools section of Customer Support. It shows all Orion web accounts with usernames and passwords. -=Cheers=- NG

The two tools do not integrate as they perform separate functions. They will both need to be setup to receive flows from your routers. MARS is a network analyzing/alerting tool. Orion is a node reporting/monitoring/alerting tool. HTH

That's the flaw in the suppression scheme. If the other devices all "go down" before the PIX, then the suppression is not active. It all depends on where in the polling cycle you are when the network goes down. If it just finished polling the PIX and the network goes down, then it polls the other 20 devices, you will most…

Kaj, I can't help you with creating the report, but the next version of Orion will allow advanced SQL query reports to be displayed as a web report. It may be released in the next few weeks. -=Cheers=- NG

The 'Cisco' VPN 3000 concentrator is actually an "Altiga Networks" device, similar to the old days when a Cisco 2900 was actually a "Kalpana" switch in Cisco clothing. Unless the device uses the standard Cisco IOS/CatOS, MIBs, the SNMP polling may or may not work. I am able to get only the Interface utilization from mine…

Howie, This is all customizable from the alerts tab in NPM. First make sure you set the node statistics polling interval in the node details page to 120 seconds, then go to the alerts page and configure the appropriate alert for 90%. Then the device will have to be over 90% for 120secs. before you get an alert. The on-line…

quote:Originally posted by BryanBecker Has anyone tuned their Orion server to poll everything at 1 minute intervals? Thanks. A few things to consider; - The biggest load on the server/network is the SNMP polling of all the interfaces on a switch/router. Keep this down to a reasonable timeframe & you should be OK. ICMP polling should not add that much load to the poller. - However the DB will suffer if you decide to do this. Make sure your…

Sorry mate, you're out of luck on this one. Orion was originally designed for monitoring networking devices, not PC's or servers. There have been requests for monitoring TCP ports/services on devices, but monitoring whether a service is actually running on a Win2k OS goes beyond the intent of this software (it would be…
-
You are correct Andy, it's in the works... The custom MIB you submitted is for the Solarwinds Toolset App MIB Databse. Orion does not use this DB, but uses a fixed set of MIBS to poll all devices. -=Cheers=- NG

This is a function of the VPN concentrator. The VPN administrator has disabled "spilt tunneling". This a security feature which prevents "evil doers" on the Internet from accessing your PC while you are connected to the corporate network via VPN. You can ask your VPN Admin to allow split tunneling for the Orion server, but…

Jon, What version of Orion are you running.I can't be sure, but it seems as though I am seeing more "packet loss" & nodes in warning than before, but if I look at a node graph from the past 3 months, it doesn't really seem to be any greater than before the upgrade. Maybe I'm just watching the website more often & intently…

What is the latency of your VPN connection? You may need to increase your ICMP timeout settings in Orion, although I believe the default setting is 2500ms, which should be enough for almost any VPN connection. -=Cheers=- NG

Simon, These availability reports are included in Report Writer V7. I have created %availablity reports based on last month, this month, Year to date, last 12 months, etc. Here's a report showing the average availability of each node last month: SELECT CONVERT(datetime, LTRIM(MONTH(DateTime)) + '/01/' +…
