Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Monitoring a remote network over VPN
FormerMember
Hi I currently monitor 2 networks which work great. I was also recently informed that I need to monitor another 70 interfaces over a VPN connection. I am using a Cisco VPN client version 4.8 and once I connect the VPN all other interfaces drop.
If the tunnel is up the interfaces on the Orion box stop responding. I can't reach them or even ping them. Also the website stops responding.
I tried to install a second NIC with a public IP and force the VPN client to use that. It seems like the Cisco VPN client seems to lockdown all interfaces.
Does anyone know of a way around this? Can I use a "relay Computer" to relay the messages to solarwinds? Is there a way to stop the VPN client from taking all the interfaces? Any help would be appreciated.

This is a function of the VPN concentrator.
The VPN administrator has disabled "spilt tunneling".
This a security feature which prevents "evil doers" on the Internet from accessing your PC while you are connected to the corporate network via VPN.
You can ask your VPN Admin to allow split tunneling for the Orion server, but most likely they will say no, as you will be connecting the 3 remote network to your other 2 networks via the Orion server - not a good thing.
Installing the Cisco VPN client on your Orion Server is not recommended practice (it also installs a Firewall on your server).
Monitoring a network of 70 nodes via VPN is not reliable & prone to false alerts if there are problems with the transport network or tunnel.
