  • I would like to see alerting for this implemented with my TTL monitoring suggestion. When ICMP TTL to a node changes, send an alert and run a traceroute or windows pathping to the node and store this info (as per my AANT resource). This could then also be used to capture a snapshot of the routing tables to see what has…
  • Login into the customer section of the Solarwinds site and check out the new Polling Engine tuner. It is in the "unsupported" section. Make sure you have your max polls/second set slightly above the recommended number. This might help in the missed polls. -=Cheers=- NG
  • I'd make a strong suggestion to the directors that if they want their network monitored correctly, they will have to find another box for their BES server. If they don't give you another server, then they can only have on or the other, but not both! I learned my lesson the hard way (just like this). I now keep my Orion…
  • Orion was designed mainly for network devices with server support added about a year ago. As such it is designed to poll only 3 types of MIBs. Node, Volume and Interface. So you are limited to the following - CPU, memory, disk & interface utilization. You require another product such as Engineers Edition to monitor custom…
  • Thanks spruance In communications with Cisco engineers, we were told that the QOS queue drops are collected on the individual interface ASICs, which are not currently pollable with SNMP in V5.2.x Perhaps we will upgrade a Nexus 55xx in the lab to 6.2.x just to see what private mibs are now available.
  • Wow, 440 views and no one else has seen this issue? We are still fighting this problem with no resolution in sight.
  •  Welcome to the Forums Bogor & the world that is Orion. Grouping is one of the main features of Orion. This can be accomplished with the Custom Property Editor. You can create any custom property you like and use this for alerting, reporting and many others. Using a combination of properties, it is possible to setup…
  • I'd suggest calling the Sales or Support line to find out more on if/how this can be done. We are a one poller/db shop, so I really can't provide any additional feedback on this. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote: When you say "Customers then will remotely roll-up the data" I guess you did not follow the link? I'm sorry for mis-leading you Cygnuz. You will have to ask Don Yonce, as I was only quoting his reply - hence the italics. In the future I will use quotes, so there is no mis-understanding of who said what. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Depends on the bandwidth & latency of your WAN link. Generally it is not a good idea: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Having a WAN link between a polling engine and the SQL server is not a good idea. But, many SolarWinds customers place remote Orion servers, each with its own SQL server across a WAN link. In this…
  • Try re-installing Orion when you are logged into the console with admin account. If you are using RDP to access the Orion server to do the install, then use the run command from your client: run> mstsc /console Contact Solarwinds support if this does not work, as there are commands you can run to re-register services &…

  • I think 3Com does some funky stuff with the port bandwidth calcualtions. They may consider 100mbit Full Duplex as 200mbits. Try adjusting the interface bandwidth slider to 200mbits and see if Orion calculates correctly. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Log into the Solarwinds Orion site with your customer account. You will see updated MIBs available for download. This may have MIBs for your M160. -=Cheers=- NG
  • That is correct, a 'Cisco' VPN 3000 concentrator is actually an "Altiga Networks" device, similar to the old days when a Cisco 2900 was actually a "Kalpana" switch in Cisco clothing. Unless the device uses the standard Cisco IOS/CatOS, the VBS will not work. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by llancup In fact question is: Do you recommend running Polling Engine Load Balancer tool to add nodes to system manager in domain B? After our tests, Orion will be install on a new server in domain A. So maybe that it is more preferable that we wait to reinstall Orion on the new server in domain A…
  • You need to run the Polling Engine Load Balancer tool from the advanced features. You'll need to change all your nodes to use the new polling engine as per this old post: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to…
  • For those of you running SQL2k5, is the issue with the DB getting locked during nightly maintenance now resolved? This is pertaining to the gap in polling every morning (2:15 - 3:15AM in my case). www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

  • Hey John, The search button is your friend in this forum. www2.solarwinds.net/.../search.asp There are several others who have Dumped HP NMM in favour of Solarwinds; I did a search for Openview & here are some results; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp…
  • OK, I just figured out what you meant by "search for nodes". I found the custom search property... nice feature! Just added it to my Home page view. When I detach this resource and edit the page with notepad, I see the following: <select name="Field" align=left> <option value="IP_Address">IP Address </option> <option…
  • The functionality you want was removed in Orion V8. Previously you could change a node from ICMP only to SNMP and back again.... You may be able to change these by manipulating the Orion DB, but you asked for an easier option :-p When changing the DB manually you must stop your polling engine(s), so I wouldn't consider…
  • You can do this now with the filter feature. Create a custom view with a summary view of all interfaces. Then filter the view using the interface table > InterfaceTypeName = 'ppp'. Scroll down for examples and the list of interface properties. You can see the description of interface types in the Custom Property Editor by…
  • Most mail servers are configured to accept traffic only from specific IPs. I'd check with the Exchange admin.... -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no more waiting for answers~
  • I haven't seen this before. I suggest a call or e-mail to Solarwinds support. -=Cheers=- NG
  • As I mentioned, it is best to use loopback addresses to manage a router. It sounds like Doug did not have the routes for the Serial interfaces advertised into his network. The TFTP source address will be whatever interface the packet leaves to get to the TFTP server, unless you specify the source IP address to use in the…
  • Do you have a TFTP ACL on your router? What is the IP you are connecting to TFTP the config? We set the TFTP source interface on our routers to the Loopback address. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Create a custom report with Orion Report Writer, including any Interface status icons you want to see, along with the interface captions (use "current node/interface status" from the report writer menu). Then publish this report using the "Customize view" option & adding a "Report from Orion Report Writer" from the add…
  • The answer is "no, not at this time". www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Hi Bryan, I've never been able to find a way around this. With pass-thru enabled, you cannot login locally. I have two different domain accounts, so I use one of them for testing when required by changing the Orion profile.
