Hello all, We are in the same boat. Layer 3 on the 4500 and 6500 series works great. We are unable to get interface/port info for layer 2 traffic from either class of chassis. This is one of many issues we have run into with SolarWinds Netflow application.

Hi there Josh, I think I understand your issue but have a few questions: 1. Are each of your DLCI's assigned to a sub-interface on the router T1? Example: serial1/0.6 2. Are you looking primarily for traffic statistics or frame relay specific details (FECN, BECN, etc...)? While we have nowhere near the frame relay…

Hello all, Look at this topic: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1391 If you find Josh's post on 6/30/2005 you will see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. The kids at SW are always working for you. I think. Maybe. Be fantastic.

Hi Tom, Custom MIB support has been requested by dozens of people in this forum. I have requested it no less than 10 times myself. At this time I have heard no response from the folks at SW as to whether or not they are working on it or when they plan to release it (if ever). If you do a search for custom MIB you will see…

Hi Cygnuz, You are most likely staying on one of the pages that does not have a refresh set. Many of the pages on the Orion website have a REFRESH meta value set to 5 minutes. If you are on one of these pages you will never loose your session info. If, however, you are on one of the pages without a REFRESH you will loose…

You would be correct iceman To shorten your window to 1 minute you will have to use something far more painful - netflow see the post at: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWinds-Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1203 Be fantastic

ICEMAN Look at this: server_address/NetPerfMon/Chart.asp?Chart=TotalBytes&NetObject=I:1724&Period=Today&SampleSize=20M&FontSize=&Width=600&Height=0 The important thing to you is: SampleSize=20M You can set the time sample to any increment from 1M to 1D (1 day). So build yourself a Custom Chart and set SampleSize=1M Be…

Hello J, Have you added both of the interfaces in question to Orion for monitoring? If you add the node but neglect to select the the interfaces, whether using traditional NetFlow on a Cisco box or nprobe on a Windows box, the NetFlow service will spawn the errors messages you see above. Assuming you have added the…

hi peel, Yes and no. You can go up to 3 layers deep when grouping nodes. I am not certain you can do what you're describing though. It sounds as if you would like one network element dependant on another to be listed under it in the grouping. Here is a way you may be able to pull this off: Both nodes: Location (you could…

Hello alij, It would appear that the folks at: Analyser Sales Ltd SolarWinds Premier Partner http://www.asl-solarwinds.co.uk Have mastered the ability to creat alternate tabs. I have not seen any other posts where folks claim to have developed their own tabs. Be fantastic.

shortwaver, Do you have issues with network devices? If you can add routers/switches/etc... with a RO community you will eliminate the Orion server as the cause of the issue. Then you can focus your attention on the host you are attempting to monitor. Be fantastic.
-
Hi shortwaver, Welcome to the forum. Some questions: 1. Do you have similar issues adding network devices (routers, switches, etc...) with a RO community string? 2. Do you have Accept SNMP packets from these hosts selected on the SNMP security tab? You should not have a problem adding machines with a RO community string.…

Hi Jon, Just a thought: won't two Windows hosts with no routing turned on select the best path to a host if they have multiple NICs? If you have the database defined on the Orion server as 10.10.10.1 and the Orion server has the two NICs configured like so: 20.20.20.10 - CORP network (polling and such) 10.10.10.10 - Orion…

Hi Oct_7, Orion can monitor whether or not these devices are responding (UP/DOWN status). It can also monitor interface info (UP/DOWN, errors, bandwidth utilization, etc...). In terms of monitoring CPU, memory, or disk volume information I think you are out of luck. However, the kids at SolarWinds are always updating the…

Hi Doomep, I don't use notepager but I do use WinBeep. WinBEEP takes a text file and uses it to send out standard pages or SMS. So I use the Orion alert engine to call a VB script (I send the device name and the event as parameters to the script) that creates said text file. WinBEEP looks at the outbound directory every…
-
Hello there Ozzy, First you can't do that. Orion will not let you have multiple device entries for the same IP address at this time. Second it sounds as if, based on the quote below your problem description, you would like to monitor some info about the actual backplane I/O and module statistics. Orion doesn't do this…
-
Don Yonce may correct me on this but I think you're in for a bang your head against a brick wall experience. The underlying code of the web interface along with the application objects used for much of Orion's fancy behind the scene work assume MS SQL. A port to MySQL would require, at the very least, a re-write of all the…

Hi lhl, Check out this post: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWinds-Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1154&SearchTerms=memory This should clear up the issue for you. Be fantastic.

Hi Jon, I think you should be able to get this done. I would look at the SQL for one of the Availability reports. Use this as your template. Next make sure there is a field you can group the devices by: either vendor, IOS image, a custom property, etc... Create an Average for this group. If you are as adverse to actual…

Hello Troy8181, NO! Until SW includes support for custom MIBs in the product you will not be able to see anything more than the generic info provided by the default interface and host resources mibs. That does not include individual drives in a RAID mirror. So I ask you to join me and countless other Orion paying customers…
-
Hello Rajendra, If the Nortel Passport 7480 uses standard mibs to express its interface data then yes you will be able to view the availability and utilization on your circuits. If the Nortel uses custom mibs then no. BTW if you want to know what the 'standard' mib is for interfaces: OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2 I hope this helps.…

Hi there antoniod, If I am understanding your problem correctly it sounds as if you would like to place something on a web page and send a pop up message to the console of the Orion server every time an alert takes place. It should not be all that difficult to achieve both of these goals. For any alert you have configured…
-
Hi surfn, Orion supports SNMPv2 now. I believe they are looking at SNMPv3 support in Orion 8, but am uncertain whether or not this will make it into the final product. Be fantastic.
-
Hello lohelle, No. The current version of Orion does not do SNMP traps. Although this has been requested before it does not seem to be at the top of the list. It looks like the kids at SW will be creating an all new alerting engine and then providing the holy grail, custom mib support. If you really want to see this…
-
iceman, Did you get the 6513 to work? If not I have a few contacts at Crannog I could put you in touch with for support. aLTeReGo, That would be awesome. However, it would also be completely outside the realm of Orion's product space. It would add 10,000+ to the price tag for Orion. For all us kids out here in the cold…

Hello iceman, Unfortunately I am running Native IOS on all of my core switch/routers so I can't give you a complete list of steps to get your Hybrid box up. However, as always I will attempt to muddle (is that how you spell muddle) through. Native IOS relevant config: mls aging long 300 mls aging normal 128 mls flow ip…

Hi there GURU, I did create a custom property and add it to the node view page just as you detailed in your post. What you said and what I said (I think) are the same thing. Anyhow, I did not go the route of the custom integration provided by Crannog. When I spoke to their rep they said they had some issues in getting it…

Hello all, I just downloaded and installed Netflow Tracker from Crannog Software on my Orion box. It works fabulously well for integrating with Orion. Netflow Tracker is the big brother to Netflow Monitor referenced in Debbi's post. The product is version 1.0.3 so there are areas that require a bit more polish and a few…

jim look here for the very long wish list for future Orion enhancements: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWinds-Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=151 what your describing sounds like fairly deep packet analysis. this seems to be a bit outside the bounds of a network monitoring/availability product. i do agree that it would be bad…

Hi Jhaley, With Orion you can run scripts to perform nearly any task when an alert is fired. The scripts can be vbasic, perl, or any other programming language that is nifty for scripting. Using this ability you could run a script to perform the actions you describe below. Go into the Alert Manager select your disk…
