Hi there Doug, Look at this post: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWinds-Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=137&SearchTerms=95th It should clarify the 95th percentile line on your charts. If you have further questions after having looked at this post let me know. Be fantastic.

Hello Mr. Stevens, If either of you get this to work let me know. My happy little company would like to have maps overlayed with the location of all of our substations and generation facilities from Orion. Then the kids upstairs can look at pictures that make sense to them. More importantly, our system operators and…

Hi iceman, We are monitoring several IBM AIX servers and a Solaris box but no Linux. The higher ups can't fathom using a product that's 'free' (so much for the value of an MBA). The AIX boxes had NET-SNMP configured right out of the box. The Solaris box was setup by the goon who maintains the box. I don't have access to it…

hi iceman, Take a look here: http://www2.solarwinds.net/SolarWinds-Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=214&SearchTerms=net-snmp This is the most complete thread on enabling monitoring of Sun/Unix/Linux boxes through net-snmp. I hope this helps. Be fantastic.

hi there peel, No. You cannot currently change the color of the happy balls on the web page based on anything but node or interface UP/DOWN status. Although not the number 1 priority (or even #10) this would be a nice include for Orion.

Hi Jim, I would use a MIB browser (SW makes a good one) to check the status of the interface via SNMP. You are looking for OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8 This is the operational status of the interface. If this does not show up(1) then you have a problem. I hope this helps. Be fantastic.

Hi Pancamo, I built a few views for my IPAQ. I use it while wandering around the hallways (wireless network). I have a limited set of info on a single column 240 pixels wide. In order to generate a page for your blackberry or a cell phone you would have to restrict the column to an even further. This, of course, is…

What version is your SQL server? Upgrade to Orion 6.4 baby. It is easy and it takes care of some of the performance issues inherent in the 6.3 web interface.

Take a look at this topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Don Yonce's reply should give you a starting place to solve this problem.

hello Chris, I see something similar. However, my threshold seems to be more in the 200Mb range. Often when my core switch/router interfaces start to move in excess of 200Mb I see funny things on my graphs: missing intervals, spikes then 0Mb, then another spike. This does not happen every time the traffic reaches this…

Hello again John, There is an API for many of Orion's magical features. However, the API along with several of their juicy web scripts (asp pages) are all locked up. They do not publish the API and encrypt all of the interesting ASP code in their web interface. I assume this is done to protect their intellectual property.…

Hi John, Welcome to Orion land. You are looking for the magic of the Orion Report Scheduler. You can get this from the download section of the SW web site if you are a paying customer. The report scheduler allows you to take any report you have created in Report Writer and generate it on whatever schedule you would like.…

hi all, based on the topic from NG you use this as your link if you choose to go with the custom property route:<a href=ServerName:1741/.../com.cisco.nm.cvw.servlet.CvServlet target="_blank">Cisco Works Link</a> The benefit of this method is that the link does not display for devices that are not in Cisco Works. The…

Hi Bryan, 1. Create a custom property called HTTP_ciscoworks. 2. Make sure the field length is large enough to fit the URL string for a Device Center link. 3. Enter a string such as this to the custom property field:<a target=_blank href=http://${IP_Address}>Web Access</a> This is an example of the above for a Cisco…

Hi there Crojas, If you have SQL Server Enterprise manager you can go into the SW database and blank out the Admin account password field in the Accounts table. Then you have an admin account with no password. Login to the SW web page with the admin account and change the password to whatever you like. NOTE: Do not enter…

Hi Martin, This may seem like a basic question but: Have you checked the old server to verify that it does not have any of the SW services or processes still active? I can't imagine what else could be responsible for this issue. It sounds like a case for the SW support goons.

Hi there Jon, You would have to do a manual rediscover on every one of the interfaces you had monitored on that switch in order to update the interface descriptions in SW. Alternately you can just wait for SW to do its rediscovery of all nodes, interfaces, and volumes (defaults to every 180 minutes). Be fantastic

Hi Ger, No. You can't monitor anything else on a NetApp box at this time. However, the kids at SolarWinds are working on custom MIB support. When they get that completed you will, theoretically, be able to monitor your NetApp on any supported MIB. We have a custom property called HTTP_monitor. This is a catch all for any…

Hi Houssem, At some point someone unchecked enable for your admin account. This means the account will no longer be eligible for login to the web site. So it would seem you are screwed. However, you can just go into the database via SQL admin, or use a SQL query tool, or write a SQL script and change the value of the…

Hi Andy, You will have to make sure the ISA server is configured to allow ICMP for polling UP/DOWN status of devices. Further, SNMP will have to be allowed from any device that is being monitored. If your SQL server is going to reside on another box you will have to open up the ports to allow communications with it as…

Hello again Jon, I now have both the application monitor and wireless management packs for Orion. I contacted SW support. They gave me a quote. I got a PO and the sales goons sent me a link to both software packages. Of the two the wireless pack is more valuable. It provides a wide range of very important info for any…

HI Jon, I had to contact SW support to get a copy of the application monitor beta. It works fairly well, however they only provide a 30 day license and then it stops functioning. I have asked SW a few times when they expect to release this product but have not had a reply. This is one of the features that I used to sell…

Hi Anders, There is no web interface for the management console. You can purchase a fat client application that duplicates the features of the management console on your local workstation. However, it sounds like they are working on adding features to version 8 that will allow you to add nodes and change custom property…

Hi there Sali, You can approach this in two different ways: 1. Mess around with the source code of the base Orion pages: Open X:\inetpub\SolarWinds\NetPerfMon\Resources\2-1-NodeDetails\01-NodeDetails.Resource Find: <% SWToolsetIcon "Browser",Node.GetProperty("IP_Address")%> Change to: <a…

My guess is that it provides a hot standby of the primary Orion services. If the boss Orion server goes down the hot standby takes over the load so you don't get kicked in the teeth by management when your Orion box fails while several other critical devices fail and you never get an alert so you keep drinking beer to try…

Hi Troy, You would have to look at the source of the MAP page and peel the portions related to the map out to another file (map and image tags). This has several issues: 1. Will the map still work without all of the Orion specific includes that are in the ASP code? Most likely not. So you will have to get all of the…

Someday in the not too distant future the kids at SW will provide support for custom MIBs. All of our questions about lack of vendor support (Nortel, Foundry, Extreme, HP, Dell, etc...), and about technology support (VPN, BGP, ISDN, IP Voice, etc...), and physical monitoring (fans, temp, power, etc...) will fall away and…

Hello Marlon, I may be wrong (and often am) but I think that Orion only provides buffer info for Cisco devices (after all Cisco controls the world). This, once again, points us to the need for custom MIBs in Orion. This would allow you to view the buffer misses for your happy little Foundry switches/routers. BTW: How do…

Hi there jagraj, It sounds as if a control or possibly a DLL was not installed or did not properly register during your upgrade. You could attempt to reinstall (this probably won't hurt and may even fix the problem). If that doesn't work you need to speak with SW support. Their phone number and email address are on the SW…

Hey Ian, I have had the same issue with several 3548 switches in my environment. As suggested by Mr. bleearg13 this is an SNMP counter issue. I periodically reboot the little beasts (every quarter) to make sure all is well. I haven't had a problem since. Be fantastic.
