  • The Alerts table contains all the configured Alerts. The piece that you are missing is the "PropertyID". Each Property is defined internally within NPM and assigned to a NetObject type (Node, Interface, etc). It's quite difficult to join the Alerts table to the Nodes or Interfaces table. A new Alert Engine is in…
  • Tony, Yes, you can do that on the Orion web site. Set up new Summary, Node and Interface View for an Account, then from the Account Manager on the Web Site allow the Account to "Customize Views", but do not allow Admin rights. This will allow them to customize the Web for their own Account. We also have had customers set…
  • Network Guru is exactly right. In Version 7.x only.... When creating an Alert, add a "Send a Windows Net Message" action to the Alert. Then simply enter the IP Address or Computer Name. Be sure the Windows "Messenger" service is running on the machine that should receive the popup messages.
  • That's really strange.... The Web Site Logo is stored in the SQL Database WebSettings table. You can view or change it using the Database Manager.
  • Hmmm... good idea. I'll forward this to development. It will not speed up Switch Port Mapper since it still has to scan the entire ARP and Bridge tables because they are indexed by MAC, not by port. But, hiding ports from the view is still a good idea.
  • duncan, Sorry, you cannot do this in the current release. This is a good idea. I'll add it to the list. I have seen a creative work-around to this problem. Connect the nodes with two links and assign one to each interface.
  • Greg, You can set the TFTP Server address from within your download scripts. Here is an example from the original "DownloadMultipleConfigs.vbs". I changed the Download() function to set the TFTP Server address. Sub Download(IP,Community) ' Create a new transfer object Set Transfer = TransferEngine.Transfers.NewTransfer '…
  • That is indeed a great idea. I'll forward it on. Thanks, Don
  • Jim, If you are trying to convert the English into German for charts, you may be better off changing the *.Charts files. They are located in the C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor directory. Using an XML editor (or Wordpad if you are really desperate), your can change the English titles and legends to…
  • Here are the URL parameters for Chart.aspBase URL : /NetPerfMon/Chart.asp This URL returns a NetPerfMon Chart object in GIF format. ·NetObject Object ID of any object within Network Performance Monitor. An object ID is composed of a type identifier, colon, and the object’s unique ID number. The object’s unique ID can be…
  • Ron and Simon, That is exactly the same error we have seen before when one of the Nodes sends corrupt SNMP information in response to an SNMP poll. Most corrupt SNMP responses are ignored, but this particular one causes the OID decoder to memory dump. Although they have not been able to exactly reproduce this problem…
  • Here is one method of moving Interface Traffic statistics from one interface to another. You will first need to know the NodeID and InterfaceID for the old and new Interfaces. Open System Manager, right-click on the interface and select "Interface Details". Write down the NodeID and InterfaceID for the old and the new…
  • Peter, Each NetPerfMon Map can only have one background. But .... that doesn't mean you cannot have two large objects on a map that look like two background images and simple place all the nodes on top of those two large objects. Here's one easy method of doing this: Create a new Map with Map Maker. Using whatever program…
  • The Engineer's Edition SysLog server does not have this capability. The Orion Syslog server has this capability plus many more.
  • Eric, Replace your Preview.asp with the following asp code<!--#include Virtual=/NetPerfMon/scripts/NetPerfMon.asp --> <% Dim View Dim NetObject Dim NetObjectID SelectWeb "NetPerfMon" VerifyLogin "CUSTOMIZE" Set View = NetPerfMon.NewView View.SelectView Select Case UCase(View.ViewType) Case "SUMMARY" NetObjectID = "" Case…
  • Chris, I'm sorry about your frustration. There are a many features that could be added to the current polling engine. Maintenance windows, custom MIBs, etc. With the current polling engine architecture it is a trade off of performance vs features. The "Scheduled UnManage" for a maintenance feature window is exactly one of…
  • dpoore, The bad news is... the serial number stored in the MIBs on Cisco devices does not match the serial number on the back of the device. The good news... you can alter the Cisco config to change the serial number in the MIBs to match the one on the back of the device once you know the serial number on the back of the…
  • Now I understand the issue. Toolset v8 and Orion 7.5 Discovery Engine are not compatible. When I said "reinstall Orion", I assumed you would install Orion V7.8 A possible work around for Orion V7.5 is : From the "Network Performance Monitor v7" directory, run the following command C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe…
  • Sounds like a DLL is downrev. Could it have been an older release of the Engineer's Edition Toolset ? I suggest rerunning the Orion install. Do not uninstall Orion, just rerun the Install. It should correct itself.
  • You do not need another key to reinstall. You can reinstall the software without requiring a new Software License Key. It will use the one already on the PC. This type of error means that required DLL has been deleted or renamed. Re-Installing should fix the problem.
  • Use Network Sonar to create a Microsoft Access database for discovery. Then, before you start the discovery. Open the database from Access and import your list of subnets. Then run the discovery using the new list of subnets.
  • Sounds like the Account you are using does not have permission to view any Node Details. Select "Account Manager" from the Web admin. Select the Account your are using and click the "Edit" button. Towards the bottom you can select which view should be used for "Node Details". It's probably set to "NONE".
  • Your right !! Excellect points. I was unaware that the SQL Server install was included in the download. I'll get that changed right away. As for the program updates or readme, or whatever. I'll check into that also. Thanks, Don
  • Good Question ! Depending of the speech engine you used (yes, Orion can use many different speech engines) you will need to copy the lexical dictionary from your user id to the "System" user ID. The reason for this is that when you configured the pronounciations, you were logged in with your user ID. When you tested the…
  • It may be there, just not very wide. You may be able to stretch out the Nodes tree from the left side of NetPerfMon. Or... start regedit.exe to edit the Windows registry. Delete the following settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\Network Performance Monitor\NodeList
  • Shutting down interfaces is now possible via the web using Orion NPM version 7.6 or later. Enable "Toolset Integration" within the web site. One of the toolset options is "Enable/Disable Interface" when you right click on an Interface.
  • Look in the Admin Guide www.solarwinds.net/.../Syslog.htm
  • "Last Boot" is determined via the SNMP variable RFC1213-MIB:sysUpTime 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3 This variable is a 32 bit counter of the number of 100ths of a second since the device booted. If you do the math, you will see that this counter will wrap in about 500 days. Therefore, you may get a stray reboot alert if the device has…
  • Mike, Orion V7.6 will include a SysLog Server integrated into Network Performance Monitor. The SysLog Server is highly scalable and can send alerts on specific messages. It can also forward syslog messages to another SysLog server, generate traps, etc. Orion V7.6 is in final testing now and should be available within a few…
  • JMCO, Within Switch Port Mapper, you can add the folowing statistics by selecting "File->Settings" from the menu. Date/Time of last interface status change Time last packet was received on this port (Cisco IOS only) Time elapsed since last packet was received on this port (Cisco IOS only) Time last packet was transmitted…
