  • If there is no component wizard, how do you monitor an API? Thanks
  • quote:Originally posted by bnoone We have been working on an idea of using a VPN tunnel for access to the router. We would create a tunnel from an existing VPN Concentrator to the 2811. Then route just admin and SNMP traffic through the tunnel from Solarwinds. When I first read your post I was going to recommend the same…

  • quote:Originally posted by skaczkowski We've spent ohhhhhhh... A LOT on Concord, I think our anual maintenance (software MAINTENANCE, we ALREADY own the damned thing) runs us around ~$30K if I'm not mistaken. With the Syslog server you can setup your devices (servers, routers, switches, etc) to send their messages to Orion…

  • quote:Originally posted by BwlBoy Sorry if the question is too broad. What I would like is the views of the people who use the tool not the solarwinds marketing people. The rest of the forum is very specific to certain issues or functionality. What I am after is did it do the job you bought it for and any advice on do's…
  • Epsilon, Your comment regarding EE and using VNC... I have that very setup today and have been doing it for 2 years now. Another product with EE that I use heavily is Switch Port Mapper. Not only do I use EE and access it remotely with VNC, I just bought and installed a 500 node version of Orion. You are correct, it does…
  • Ditto on both of mine.
  • quote:Originally posted by jneiberger We're considering purchasing the SLX version of NPM. If we wanted to monitor about 350 devices (mostly routers and switches), would the version of MS SQL server that is included with Orion be too small? Should I plan on purchasing a larger version of that product? I have a 500 element…
  • I monitor my private and public networks from a single Orion box. I have a static map and rule on my Pix to allow logging and snmp between Orion and the public devices.
  • 1) Custom MIBs 2) Native Switch Port Mapper functionality in Orion. 3) Custom MIBs 4) Port Monitoring 5) Custom MIBs Thanks, Danny Mc?
  • quote:Better device inventory report (serial numbers) I believe this is stored as a MIB. • quote:Originally posted by cnorborg First, to get any data for the wireless network management pack, you need to make sure that for every AP, the radio interface is being monitored, simply telling it in the wireless add-on to monitor the AP is not enough, if you're not monitoring the "Dot11RadioX" interface(s) you don't…
  • Ditto on that problem. I just looked at one of the access points in my network. No information collected. BTW, I have purchased the license for the Wireless Management Pack. I pull up the Wirless Networks application. I used this to select all my AP's. They have been in Orion for a long time and was monitoring the wireless…
  • quote:Originally posted by martek01 We have been using Google Earth for some time now. I wish Google Earth had a clear image of our campus. I would add wireless coverage rings, PTSN paths, fiber runs, etc..
  • quote:Originally posted by Grabowski I'd love to post some screenshots, but I can't see how I do that in this forum. I'm sure it's pretty straight-forward but I just can't find out how and the forum help says that files cannot be attached. Have you created one? If so, how large is it? Maybe we can have someone host it on…

  • quote:Originally posted by jneiberger I'd first like to say that all of you who said that Orion was easy and quick to setup are smoking crack! Seriously, it may be easy if you don't want to customize anything, set up any alerts (with appropriate suppressions), create maps, etc. I'm really beginning to doubt my…
  • quote:Originally posted by jneiberger Our company is considering a purchase of Orion NPM but our internal purchasing guidelines require us to get customer references whenever possible. I contacted Solarwinds and was told that they don't do customer references at this time. So, I thought I'd check with you all. Would any of…
  • Tandberg and Polycom video conference systems APC backup systems Thanks, Danny Mc?
  • Using the database utility I was able to do queries against the syslog table. I was using the standard query to retrieve and delete 1000 at a time. Change the query string to 'delete from syslog where ....). After a minute I got an error: Error=Cannot open database requested in login 'NetPerfMon'. Login fails. I rebooted…
  • I'm not monitoring as many nodes as Bryan but I'm using a Dell SX270 (2.4g / 512meg). I'm only monitoring about a dozen nodes and close to 50 interfaces. I am monitoring uplinks to stacks off my core, WAN links and interfaces for two AS/400's. I am running Network Perf Monitor & Bandwidth Monitor for this stuff. I also run…
